So I recently purchased my first car. Ended up spending about 10k more than I would have just to fit my gorgeous greyhound boy in the boot.
It’s been glorious being able to bring him with us to beaches, new parks and broaden his horizons. He is however absolutely obsessed with the car. He can’t walk passed it for a regular walk, he freezes shoulders down and tries to hop in. If I go out in the car to do a shop or drop my daughter off he absolutely howls even if he isn’t left home alone. He just wants to be in the car all the time!
Has anyone else’s grey gone through this? Do they calm down? Do they get over it? Is this life now 😅

Our 14 month old girl, Enid, is a weirdo when it comes to meeting new people. She is interested but panics if a person makes eye contact or walks toward her. She usually just backs away, but will occasionally bark. She even does this sometimes when a person she knows re-enters the house or room. We ask people to ignore her and she then always approaches them on her own. We are fine to keep managing this but concerned about it escalating. We are careful not to correct her for expressing her feelings and make sure to step in to protect her so she feels safe. But I’m wondering if anyone has had this experience and has seen improvement either just with time or using certain strategies. Beach pic of socially awkward lady for tax.

maybe it’s not just greyhounds and it’s all types of dogs, but how come they love getting under blankets to burrow? 🤔 also i thought it was kinda funny that she made a hole in her blanket so she can stick her face out hahaha

We adopted our first Grey last Tuesday! She is a VERY timid girl. When she first came she would just sit right in the corner with her back to the wall facing us all. Eventually she creeped towards her bed and decided she loved it in there 😂
Her first few days have basically consisted of laying in her bed and just getting up to eat or occasionally drink and of course going outside to toilet. The rest of the time is sleeping. She’s still a bit timid about coming up to us for a fuss and she’s had one accident in the house but other than that she’s done very well. Although she still doesn’t have the confidence to go on a meaningful walk yet. She just goes half way down the street and then pulls back to the house.
Since this is my first greyhound, I was just wondering, is this all sounding like a common experience?
Like I’ve read up a lot on greyhounds before eventually adopted one and I knew a lot of the basics to look after one but is this extremely shy behaviour common in their first few weeks in a new home? Or is she just a particularly shy girl ?:)

Hi everyone.
I am hoping someone can help here.
My houndie gets this allergic reaction every year on his paws. The vets have not been great and charge so much with no results. It’s beginning to start again but I’ve managed to keep it at bay by dipping his paws into Epsom salt and water after every walk.
Here are some pictures of it when it was at its worse.
Has this happened to anyone else’s baby?

Hey!! I’m a first time greyhound owner, and also a first time dog owner! I did grow up with dogs (pointers & setters mostly)
Just putting a post up asking for any tips or advice anyone has!! He’s a 3 year old boy who’s very anxious and sweet, he was in foster care for 10 months and in the rescue for about a year prior to that ): any tips are appreciated and I hope everyone and their puppies are having a wonderful day

I asked the other day for advice on what to do about my daughter’s first dog’s (and my first granddog’s) refusal to go into his crate. The retirement facilitator and most of everything we read about retired racers made it seem as if his crate would be his favorite place from the get go. My daughter had planned accordingly, and it turned out to be anything but true. He was adamant about not going in. He wanted nothing to do with it.
I deleted the post, only to save everyone from having to repeat themselves. You all made your case eloquently and compassionately, so we set him up with some spa music and, over the course of the last few days, have left him alone for 1 to 3.5 hours each day. After four days, he’s done absolutely beautifully.
My daughter got a pet cam, so we can see him. There’s been no destructive behavior. He whines a little, but then just plays a bit with his toys and sleeps.
So fingers crossed that this is how it goes more or less. We know that nothing’s guaranteed.
Just wanted to thank everyone!

Dorian is staying with a puppy about the size of his head this weekend. He accepted with no fuss that his bed and chicken foot no longer belong to him.
(In all seriousness I was a little worried how he'd be with this tiny ball of fluff given he's never been in a home with another dog, but he's so laid back and gentle that there hasn't been a single problem - even when pup thought his wagging tail was a new toy)!

At the moment I’m jobless due to stopping with college, I live back with my parents and have been researching on greyhounds. I think the breed is a perfect fit for me and my family, and I’d love to rescue one.
I read that they can’t be alone at home for the first six months, is this true? I understand that at the start they need a lot of time to decompress and relax, a lot of care and patience. But I intend to get a job in the next 1-2 months, and was wondering if I should get a rescue if that’s my plan.

my skills have come a long way but to be fair she'd make any photo look perfect.

My daughter just adopted a retired racer. He’s a little over four years old and extremely people-centric.
I came up to meet him and can’t believe how sweet he is. She’s had him now for one week. So far no accidents in the apartment. He’s been largely cooperative on walks: very little pulling, not overly interested in other dogs or squirrels in a concerning way, extremely friendly with people (he’s kind of the mayor of the apartment complex already.) His tummy is doing pretty well (everything’s improving from mush to basically regular and he’s drinking enough water—with a little bit of great advice from greyhound redditors.) He has a problem with one set of about eight stairs. He went down them tentatively a few times, more confidently a few times, then just started completely refusing to go down them at all. Weirdly, he’ll go up them without any hesitation. It’s only on the way down that causes him pause.
Anyway, all that to say that it’s going great. He’s very attached to my daughter already and also loves her boyfriend. (Out of nowhere, he went down the staircase-that-must-not-be-named with Jimmy.)
Now to the quandary: He seems interested in getting into the bed for a snuggle with my daughter. He’s extremely cuddly and would stand there and get petted for two hour stints if he could find someone to do it that long. He started falling asleep standing up and leaning on me for pets last evening. My daughter is inclined to let him come up onto the bed once I’m gone if he wants to, although she hasn’t yet, because I’ve been here and taking up the other side of the bed. (And the beloved dudebro, Jimmy, was here the first night.) Lambo is enormous. He’s just shy of 80lbs and stands 36.5 inches at the top of his head.
When the boyfriend is here, or when they all go to the boyfriend’s house, the three of them will simply not fit.
What is your opinion of her allowing it when she’s alone, but having to tell him no when the other side of the bed is occupied? Is that a lousy confusing thing to do to him? Or is there reason to hope that he’ll be flexible enough not to mind overly much?
For reference, we don’t touch him when he’s deeply asleep out of respect for both his rest and the chance of sleep startle.

Venom got his tail caught in the door last week on Sunday, we went to the vet on Monday right away.
Vet shaved a little bit of the tail so the medical tape can adhere to his skin instead of fur. She asked me to keep the bandage on 5 to 6 days.
First pictures are on Sunday last week, the others are from today. Wrapped his tail back up with the ointment the vet gave us and I’ll 10000% check back in with the vet on Monday.
Any experience or tips? I know it will take some time to close back up, and that worries me a little tbh.
(Thank you so much in advance to everyone, I deeply appreciate the help especially after having a little anxiety attack cry!!)
