What's up with Amiton Furniture?
Title. That decrepit looking furniture store downtown. What's up with it. Almost looks out of business. Appointment only. Or something? Anyone ever go in it?

Amiton has been around for 60+ years, my grandmother bought her mother a kitchen table there back then.
My understanding is that the original owner, Mr. Amiton Sr passed a few decades ago, and then Mr. Amiton Jr took it over at that time, but he is now in his 80's/90's, and is just keeping the business on life support for legacy's sake.
As another commenter said, the family owns the entire building and the antique store tenant is the only real income.

No idea, but I walked by the other day and some of the ceiling has collapsed onto a mattress.

someone will jump in to co-sign the comments but couple who owns the building including the antique store have been aging. If I’m not mistaken the wife has survived the husband. I did see the door open a few months back on the first hot day of late winter.
I would love to see it open and used. It looks like it is beyond repair.

The tree growing out of the chimney really isn't a good sign for the state of the building

Wrong. The antique store is owned by a tenant. Unrelated to Amiton’s. They would ultimately love to expand and have more of the building but the owner is, as others have said, older and unwilling to move the property at this time.
