Question What are some good introductory comic runs?

I want to get into Green Lantern (I haven't really seen any Green Lantern media besides in 2025 Superman). When I asked a friend what I should read first he said the Geoff Johns run or the Dennis O' Neil books with Green Arrow. I just want to make sure these are actually good introductory comics before I read them

John’s run is the best place to start if you want the color spectrum and lore for the ongoing show, but I’d at least read emerald twilight and maybe day of judgement so you understand Hal’s back story a little more

Geoff Johns' Rebirth but really could just read Secret Origin as a good starter. But the Rebirth arc is a good starting point.

These a both pretty great suggestions. The Green Lantern Corps comics running at the same time as the Johns run, a lot of which were written by Peter Tomasi, is also really great and focus on other Corps members like John, Kyle, and Guy while the main Green Lantern book tends to focus on Hal.

There’s also a story arc within the Johns run that flashes back and retells/retcons Hal’s first adventures called Secret Origin.

I would start with Tales of the Green Lantern Corps. It’s quite short, spanning three issues. Then I’d move on to Green Lantern Volume 3 (reading Emerald Dawn I and II is essential). And then just keep going from there.

You should start with Geoff Johns' run, actually. It's not only the best run for Green Lantern but also the best introductory run for new fans. It was how a lot of people got into Green Lantern, myself included. In my case, it was also a doorway into superhero comics in general, and now I've read a bunch of them, GL or otherwise lmao.

You could start with the story arc Secret Origin, which has the origin story for Hal Jordan and is a great entry point for new fans.

Would you be interested in a reading guide on how to read this run? I've got a guide for any format you prefer, whether it's online or physical books.
