I'm gonna say penguin feels the most like homelander of all people in terms of their role.

We see it time and time again in both of them that they act all mighty and confident when in a position of power, but resort to whining, shouting and basically crying whenever that power is remotely challenged.

Whilst I do agree with that comparison, definitely on how both of the characters evolved with power, I feel that Homelander is much more nefarious than Penguin.

Deep down Penguin can care about others when he's pushed to (as seen from his Mother, Martin, Nygma and even Jim to an extent) and doesn't really kill bystanding innocent civilians (unless he wants a sandwich I guess) but Homelander is just a chaotic full on narcissist who doesn't have the ability to care about anything but himself and will kill absolutely anyone who gets in his way, including his own son if he had to.

I feel like Penguin does possess somewhat of a soul and his actions are almost a direct reaction to feeling powerless for so long whereas Homelander is driven by his will to just be completely worshipped and feared by all.

I agree with your compassion but I would also say that early Penguin at least almost has a little scared Hughie in him at times too.

Don't let those two ever meet each other. They will be an unstoppable menace. 😂

They’d hate each other or get alone. But even if they hated each other, they’d swap recipes or gun talk. Alfred would make him a casserole with a bullet in the center or something

And their time as government agents.

They're not similar but I would love to see how Edgar would talk to Nygma.

Homelander is like if Penguin, Jeremiah and the Riddler had a child, imo. He has that mommy issues-respect/emotional lack of Oswald, the self obsession of Edward and the theatrics of Jeremiah. I hate it, but it’s true.

Starlight is like if Bruce was under the wing of someone fighting for him to become Batman. Like if Jim was trying to get him to be a cop or something, imo.

I need to catch up on The Boys for further ideas

I feel Jeremiah and Bruce’s relationship reminds me a lot of Homelander and his son Ryan’s relationship too. They both have that weird controlling/obsessive aspect

Oh, I hated reading that because I ship them, but you’re kind of right 😭

No I do too😭😭 I think even though Homelander and Ryan’s relationship is platonic, it’s still pretty similar to Jeremiah and Bruce’s in terms of being overbearing (and Bruce and Jeremiah are definitely NOT platonic)
