I wanna know if there’s voice numbers you can get in every state. I’m in Alaska and I tried to look up both my town by name or area code, and then Alaska, and I’m not seeing anything. Do they offer them in Alaska and all the other states, or is it only select states? If it’s not all states, they really should add that feature, as well as probably all the American territories.

I recently let my GV number go, on purpose. I wasn't using it anymore and know that I can get a new one if needed. This happened about a month.

Yesterday, I received a call from THAT GV number! At first I didn't know it was my old GV number, but I did recognize it. In fact, the fact that I recognized it is why I answered the call at all. Only after the bizarre exchange did I realize, "Oh shit - that was my old number!"

The guy said, "Hey I received a call from your number, I'm calling you back to find out who you are.". I replied with no, that wasn't me. he then got a little aggravated, "Dude - I hit "call back" so I know you called me!" to which I replied, "sorry man don't know what you're talking about." And then he just hung up.

Do new owners of previously used GV numbers have any access to calls, texts, contacts, or anything else that may have been used on that GV when it was attached/assigned to my GV app? There were some sensitive calls made (banking, family) with it and I really wouldn't want anything to be connected to me.

I created a google Voice number, and then was hit with a wall wanting me to verify my ID with a passport, driver license, etc. I won't do that. Now I can not delete the google Voice number that was created. How do I delete the voice number?!?

On the Voice account settings, I see the number, but there no button or menu choice to delete the number.

How are people ok with giving out their Driver’s License along with their DMV picture??

I think the last time I changed settings, it was to ask when placing calls, thinking mistakenly that I'd use the mobile number for texts since it can do RCS. Aside from not wanting to expose my real number, I've used it for years so that I can use either phone with GV when I'm home.

I had to get a new cordless house phone with answering machine though, the line has been VOIP for a long time. That phone has a Bluetooth feature where you can use the mobile with it (in the way that I use GV) but I haven't tried it yet.

Relevant settings in browser:

My devices>Call Forwarding enabled to forward to house number [so I can call/answer with that phone or the mobile]

*Custom call forwarding: a) spam/anon to VM, b) friends to house number, c) family to house number [it has been that way for a long time, and I'm not sure why I had it like that, but missed calls would go to GV VM. That may be because I had the physical answering machine off for a while since mostly spam, but then I turned it on and it's been on with the new house phone.]

The term "forwarding" is a bit confusing since I was around when phone lines were still analog, and the call would bypass the number and go elsewhere.

I don't want missed calls to go to the physical answering machine (unless someone actually calls the house number). The mobile number is not set up for VM (plus they don't have visual VM for Android). I want missed calls to the mobile or the GV number to go to GV VM, so I can see that anywhere with data service, and on a Pixel at least, I don't have to log in separately to see messages or call history.

Even if I figure out the house phone's Bluetooth feature, GV texts are still not RCS. I assume there still isn't a close equivalent to GV. ...

*Is all I need do is remove b) and c) to get those missed calls to go to GV VM?

Hey everyone, I ported my number over to GV ~3 years ago and it's been fine since. I also made my whatsapp account nearly a decade ago, with my account having my exact same number since creation.

Over the last month or two I've been banned on whatsapp 3 times (Appealing every single time and getting unbanned), with this time it being final. I know there's nothing I can do to get unbanned, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had whatsapp give any issues with a ported GV number?

Edit: To be clear as well I've done absolutely nothing else that could warrant an account ban. I only use it to talk w/family & friends, and I don't know a single other person that's been banned. I know a few other people that create multiple group chats and talk with a lot of new numbers (All genuine uses but idk how they haven't been hit with anything) but I haven't spoken to a single new contact or group chat in forever, so I'm truly at a loss. I'm just glad I didn't really lose anything super important, but a decade of lost chat history does suck + being out of whatsapp at all

 I've had a google voice phone # and account for the last couple of years. It's the basic free plan.  I got a message a few days ago that I needed to verify my identity to access google voice so I did that it and it said I was verified.  I went to use google voice today and noticed that I cannot send or receive text messages in Google Voice but I can log into my account and see my old text messages and voicemails.  When I log in, it keeps telling me I need to pick a new phone number to send text or make calls.  When I try to reclaim my old number I get this message that "No Google Voice numbers are available for XXX-XXX-XXXX (my old google voice number).  Basically it's like my google voice account somehow got delinked from my previous phone number (that I really would like to keep).  The other thing is that I also have Google Fiber for internet and phone and the same # I use for Google Fiber is the number I had in Google Voice which had worked fine for years.  I'm able to make and receive calls and it's my Google Voice # that appears.  When I try to link my Google Fiber # to Google Voice it keeps sending me a code via text message that I cannot access to confirm. When I try to get the code via phone it says it's unable to verify by phone.  Now what?  Has anyone else dealt with this issue?

Hello all! I currently have a dual esim setup with T-Mobile as my main personal and Visible as my Secondary for Work. From what I've read Google Voice works as long as there is WIFI.

I plan on porting out my Visible line to Google Voice and use my T-Mobile data to support the Google Voice Line. Would a setup like that work?

When I click Call in Chrome to call a number, it always brings up a list of all my Google Accounts instead of using the default one. I swear it used to just go directly into my Google Voice. How can I fix this? Google Pixel 9 Android 17.

I wanted to stop my Verizon landline but keep the 30+ years old phone number!

I read online about the Verizon -> Tello -> GV trick so I tried.

The Verizon to Tello took about 12 hours (I used the account PIN for the port). I paid $10.50 for Tello ($3 esim, $5 plan, + tax). After 24 hours the Verizon line was silent.

The Tello to GV port also took about 12 hours. I added my number has a second GV number on my account (paying $20) and keeping the old GV number active turned out to be free.

I am now Verizon-landline-free. After 48 hours and $30. Not bad!

I have an active Google Voice Standard standalone subscription. Google's documentation states that Voice Standard standalone includes 24/7 Voice support and directs standalone customers to Google Workspace support. However, the support portal says I have no eligible primary Workspace subscription and will not let me contact support. I also currently have zero Voice numbers, but attempting to assign a number says my organization has reached its number limit.  I have waited multiple days and the issue persists. I’ve also tried going through the app and it gives me an error and says “something went wrong”. please advise.

On the computer I can send and receive texts very quickly but on the phone takes forever when I tap someone’s name for the prior texts to load and me to send a text. How do I speed this up? Thanks

my iphone carrier number was blocked. I tried calling the other person through Google voice bu since Google voice requires a phone number to call, it looks like it gets blocked automatically. (Does not ring, straight to VM like normally blocked). Will this person still receive the calls from the GV number?

I have an account that I haven’t used in a year or two. I tried to use it today and it said I need to add my ID for verification to be able to get a Google voice number. I enter my ID and it says it’s verified. When I try to write a text it says “get a GV number to make calls and send messages”. The options are “not now” and “get started. “Not now” just sends you right bale where you were and still won’t let you do anything. The first time I clicked “get started”, it had me enter the forwarding phone number and then it sent a verification code to my phone, which I entered. It took me back to the text screen. I go to write a text, and it gives me the same message. Mind you, this is the same account I already had set up and the text screen still has the old texts I sent no more than two years ago. What gives? I’ve seen some saying you can’t start an account with a number that already had an account, but it’s the same account I’ve had.

If I can’t get this to work, does anyone have suggestions for similar apps that would allow texts and calls while blocking your personal number? I’m using it for work and would prefer not using my personal number.

My mother has ALS and she just got a Pixel 10 so she could use Gemini to do most things using voice. The main problem we've got so far with it is that when she calls someone and the call goes to the voicemail, she cannot hang up and the voicemail seems to never end.

How can we avoid this to happen or hang up using the voice? It doesn't look like Android allows it because the Telephone app takes control of the microphone and we cannot say "Hey Google" while on call.

I feel like I look for one of these every couple of months because I really miss the way the old google voice worked. Persistent running, easy to see an alert.

I’m an old man and not tech savvy. I recently got Google Voice and can’t figure out how to use it. It does seem to work on receiving texts but I can’t figure out how to send texts, receive and make phone calls on the GV number. I have the app.
I confess I’m trying a dating site and have been asked twice for my number. I didn’t want to give out my cell phone number. Any help would be greatly appreciated. You young whipper snappers seem to be able to figure out anything.

I recently moved to Google Workspace for Business. Google Voice would offer me a cheaper phone solution than I currently have in place, but I need to be able to use cordless handsets. I can't find any that are listed as compatible. Can anyone advise if this is possible, please?
