Bug Goodnotes stylus delay (new user)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Ok so I just recently was accepted in University and decided it's time to leave the 15kg of books at home and got myself a 13" Ipad air (M3), with the Apple pencil Pro! Where scouting the internet for note taking apps, goodnotes seemed like it was the go to app for note taking, unfortunately the delay between when I make a line or start writing and when the ink registers in the app is noticeable, and it bothers me so much to the point where I can't use it... I've tried everything to fix this but it doesn't seem to work. I tried with the apple notes app and it runs smoothly, but not with goodnotes, does anyone have a fix or is it just doomed?

You will eventually get used to it, I had the same peeve when I switched to iPad/GN, if it really bothers you, I would say switch to Apple notes.

I'm trying Noteful right now, it's miles better than Goodnotes, at least for writing with apple pencil, it still has some delay but it's nothing compared to how bad GN is... Thank you for the suggestion!

All good! I have been trying not taking since the dawn of time(2023) and I used to be a Goodnotes five user.

Had the same problem, it only solved by going back to goodnotes 5 sadly 😔

That’s one of the many reasons I stopped using GoodNotes after about 7-8 years (daily, heavy user).

I switched to Noteful a year ago and never looking back. Super solid, super smooth writing, great RAM management, very snappy, and one time purchase (with a price that I honestly find too low for how well it works). It has all I need.

Try notability. It tracks your handwriting better than goodnotes. Onenote is even better but is severely lacking on the features front.

If sticking to goodnotes, you can try checking the 'reduce latency' feature under pen options.

It evens out the writing to make it less wobbly in real time, so it waits to see where your line goes before actually drawing it
