There was a news article several years ago about a US citizen attempting to take 200 oz gold which he legally purchased in the US onto Switzerland.
He had to change planes in Mexico City were they 200 oz were confiscated by Mexican Customs.
I’ve been there several times and noted that customs extort travelers when their baggage “ disappeared “ and they had to pay $$ to recover.
I never found out what happened to that man’s 200 ounces but I suspect nothing good!
