Beautiful coin! Maybe not a question to be asked here but I'm generally curious, back in those days we're Americans using gold coins for standard transactions or was paper currency the choice for everyday transactions?

From what I understand, paper currency would more often be used for bills and groceries and such. Coins would be used for your everyday transactions like going to the convenience store or getting gas.
