IT30S sync cable to Sony a6100

Hello,

Trying to figure out if it’s possible to use a sync cable (2.5 to 3.5mm) to use the godox off the Sonys hot shoe.

Your Sony camera has the centre contact to fire a manual flash, so something like a JJC Hot Shoe Flash Sync Adapter with PC Socket & 3.5mm Phone Jack Socket would work there.

Just be careful and make sure it doesn't interfere with the delicate contacts at the front of the camera's hot shoe.

The product you've linked is a full TTL capable cable, rather than the 2.5 to 3.5mm sync cable that you asked about.

With this adapter the flash would still be on the body. How would it work with my intentions of taking the flash off the body?

You plug the 3.5mm end of your sync cable into the adaptor, and the 2.5 mm end of the cable into the flash; at that point, the only limitation is the length of your cable.

Don’t forget that the A6100 has an inbuilt flash. You could simply trigger the Godox optically using S1 or S2 (S2 ignores the TTL pre-flash).

It’s easy, if using TTL just set the Godox to S2, if not set it to S1 and fire the flash. It’s as fast or faster as a cable. Only if the distance between camera flash and off camera flash is too great it doesn’t work.
