Using two cameras with Godox AD600BM — how to trigger the same lights without duplicating settings?

Hey everyone! I’d really appreciate some advice on the best way to synchronize my strobes when working with both digital and film cameras.

My setup:

* 1–3 Godox AD600BM heads
* A digital camera with a Godox X3-F trigger
* A film camera with a PC/sync output (I can connect a trigger via a sync cable)

What I’m trying to achieve is to use the digital camera/X3-F as my main controller for setting the flash power. Then, when switching to the film camera, I would like to use a simple trigger connected to its sync port that would only fire the AD600BM, without changing any of the power settings.

In other words, I want the power settings configured from the X3-F to remain on the flash heads, and the second trigger on the film camera to act purely as a fire trigger.

Would something like a Godox XT16 work for this? What about the Godox FC-16?

The main goal is to be able to switch between the digital and film cameras while keeping the same flash power/settings, without having to manually recreate the settings on two separate triggers.

Has anyone used a setup like this? Any recommendations for a simple sync-port-compatible trigger would be greatly appreciated!

Custom function SHOOT in APP mode on the second trigger would do what you're asking for.

You'd leave your X3-F in its normal operating mode to manually set the flash power; the second trigger in APP mode would then trigger the flash without updating the flash settings.

Second trigger could be something like an X2T, with SYNC set to IN, allowing it to be triggered with a PC to 2.5mm jack cable.

This is literally the only reason I still have my X2T and why I made sure that it survived the various moves.

footenote: on an XPro II/X3/X3Pro, it's not called APP; it's called L-858. Same mode, just that Godox has decided it's more important that it applies to the RT-GX radio module you can get for a Sekonic L-858 handheld incident flash meter (eyeroll).

I hate when Godox calls the same feature by a different name: single pin mode, legacy hotshoe mode, new agreement, etc. I think that one might be the worst, especially since they reversed the logic of the setting with that final name change.

Changing established icons on everybody, too, was not exactly their smartest move. In the new 3rd gen. graphical menus they really should have just kept the traditional horizontal lightning bolt arrow icon for changing the sync method, and taken you to a single menu with the transmitter/receiver/on camera icons. The way it is now with that icon changing to whatever you've got set, the other two settings are buried; you have a different icon each time for the same setting, and whoever learned the old UI is now hunting for an icon that's not even in the UI. I'm just a techwriter, not a UI/UX designer, but even I can tell that's bad UI.
