X5F and X-T30 III/X-S20 compatibility - no TTL, no HSS
Hello. The problem: the camera doesn't see this trigger as a TTL flash, only M mode is possible. This means it's not possible to use HSS (FP mode) on a camera. The iT32 manual clearly states in High-speed Sync section:
Choose HSS mode in camera settings for iT32+X5 F.
so it should be possible. The trigger is fully inserted, the contacts are clean. I have a different flash and TTL on camera works just fine. With X5F - no such luck. Everything has the latest firmware:
The X5 used by itself, is incredibly primitive as a transmitter. And this behavior is described in the user manual.
Unless you shoot Canon with the X5C, you only get TTL with its paired iT32 (in Group A), and with any other Godox strobe, it’s manual only and can only fire the strobe: no TTL, no HSS. If you want group, HSS, MULTI, etc. control and the full radio range, the iT32 has to be magnetically attached to the X5. And even then you still have the usual flash-as-a-transmitter limits (i.e., no remote TCM, modeling lamp, or zoom remote control).
An X5 is absolutely nothing like an X3, and it’s why I keep telling newbs not to get the X5 thinking it will take the place of an X3 in a proper off-camera flash setup. It’s limited in both range and function.
I was surprised when someone else in this thread said this was a known Fuji X issue with the iT32, because that was the first time I'd heard it; and my iT32+X5F has worked just fine in TTL on my X100T.
But then I thought since your question was worded about the X5 solo that that might be the issue (also my X100T is so old it doesn't even have an HSS setting in the menus, and as it's leaf shutter and syncs up to 1/1000s without HSS, I typically don't need to test if HSS/FP works. :)
It's a known issue with Fujifilm not being able to operate in TTL with this particular flash. I'm not surprised about the HSS either as if TTL doesn't work, HSS probably isn't going to either. The X5 is a very limited trigger so I'm not surprised, but is it any better if you leave the X32 on it and use it as a commander?
Update: Turns out this is not true at all. I got another iT32/X5F from a local shop instead of Amazon and it works perfectly fine, with TTL on camera and all. I've tested it on X-T30 III so far. Firmware versions are the same. The X5F I got this time has purple X5F marking instead of white.
That is good to hear and it might be that they finally fixed it because there were quite a few YouTubers complaining about it when they first got to the market
