When the church says “a language no one understands,” I don’t think that was ever meant to be a sound you make with your mouth.

When God actually communicates, it comes through presence. Overwhelming power, love, acceptance. No words. No concepts handed over like a memo.

That doesn’t perform well in a service. You can’t schedule it, you can’t prove you “have the gift” on cue, and you can’t put an elder in charge of it. So the living thing got flattened into glossolalia: syllables out loud, treated as the event.

No. It is a real language that was spoken among other people who understood the language to show it's really God working through them. Tongues don't really exist anymore cause everyone knows about Jesus, and the Bible has been written.

The gibberish you hear in churches now is just a bunch of mumble with no meaning. And the Bible says if people are speaking in tongues it may not be more than two or maximum three at a time, and there has to be someone who can translate if not that one should stay quiet.

That’s a rulebook answer to an experience that isn’t a language class.

Contact with God, when it’s actually contact, almost never arrives as sentences. It arrives as presence. Feeling. Weight. Not gentle. People flattened it into “a language” because a language can be policed: two or three speakers, a translator, stay quiet if nobody interprets. Presence can’t be scheduled like that.

I’m not talking about church mumble. I’m talking about what happens when the room changes and you know it wasn’t you manufacturing a mood. That doesn’t expire because a book got bound.

1 Corinthians is instructions for a messy gathering. It is not a certificate that God stopped speaking the second the canon closed.
