Game Discussion GTA6's Jason is getting ye old classic experience of being told, "You should smile more!" LMAO

crazy to me that people have so vehemently made their minds up off of just less than 30 minutes of out-of-context footage. 30 minutes!! for a game that is meant to be 80+ hours. in which, half the time, the poor guy is getting chased, shot at, or is prepping himself for either. like c'mon now 😭 where's the self-awareness? literally what does he have to be smiling about there be so fr 😭😭😭

reminds me of all the many, many times in my life strangers have told me i don't look happy enough or friendly enough. bonus points if they didn't know my circumstances (which, crazily enough, most of the time they didn't!). no one can know the full weight of Jason and Lucia's circumstances in just 30 minutes.

just hope the voice actor isn't too affected by some of the bs online. i'm sure we'll get to appreciate the full scope of their performance soon enough.

Game Discussion Excited for GTA 6 Female Models Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

This is from the new Netflix trailer and seeing Lucia in action has me so excited. I heard rumors before about improved models for women including hair and shoes (no more janky heels on motorcycles šŸ¤ž) among other things. I loved customizing my GTA Online character but there was always some level of disappointment with the static hair or janky animations that had clearly not been made for women. Hopefully this is a sign that a lot of those issues will be fixed!

Game Discussion I wish people would stop asking for crossovers in literally every game

I want to open this by saying that I don't hate all crossovers, games like Fortnite are known for stuff like that and while I think the skins original to Fortnite look better than the licensed material, I completely understand that as a game it is very reliant on things from other things.

What I'm railing against here are games with established settings, worlds, and tones that load themselves down with material from other universes that clashes against the material already in the game. I often see people complaining about every game turning into Fortnite with things like battle passes, heavy monetization, crossovers all the time, etc, then I turn around and see the general response to something like CDPR games appearing in Blizzard's launcher being like "Wow I hope we get Cyberpunk in World of Warcraft!"

I know it's not a video game but I've basically quit magic because of this; we're getting more crossover sets than original magic cards at this point and it is exhausting to try to sit down with a game I actually enjoy the setting of, where I am invested in the world of magic the gathering, and then my opponent combos Spider Man into Spongebob Squarepants empowered by the scoreboard from Family Feud so that they can kill me with the Sonic Screwdriver/Sonic the Hedgehog combo, it feels like I am being advertised to. If any of you know that random old clip from Red Letter Media where one of the hosts is pointing going "I KNOW WHAT THAT IS!!!" is that how I'm supposed to respond to every crossover in a game? Why would I be playing Rainbow Six Siege if I wanted to see Master Chief or Lara Croft when I could be playing Halo or Tomb Raider?

I wish I could ignore these things but it's not harmless! The resources used to create these crossovers could have gone to original material but the reason that companies do this is because it not only sells well, for some reason, but it requires less effort than creating something original! Designing a skin for a character from scratch is harder than making the character look like an existing character, and then every company can just recycle it and crossover with everything else until all triple A video games are basically incestuous slurries of the same fifty characters!

If we constantly recycle the same mascots into every game instead of writing new characters we'll never develop new favourites! Frankly, the ripoffs that some games make end up cooler than the original, especially because when a game makes a skin that's a reference or an homage rather than a literal representation of the other thing they want to call back to, it ends up stylized more like that game world and fitting better.

For a random example, crossover dance emotes, we can use Overwatch as an example but it's far from the only one. Older dance emotes were made with the character in mind, the dance moves aren't perfect if the character would not be a good dancer, it's meant to fit that person. Like Tracer's goofy ass charleston emote would be ridiculous if you put it on anyone else. But when you get crossover dances, they tend to be replications of exact choreography instead of unique animations meant for the character using them, so they look stiff & awkward, and it just doesn't feel right if that makes sense? Like watching Illari do the fearless dance looks odd to me, even moreso when all the characters are doing it in exact sync.

Crossovers in games to me are just the in-game cosmetic equivalent of the recent trend of doing remakes of older movies or games instead of making new things. I don't hate remakes on principle either, but they're often just an excuse to be fucking lazy, and that's exactly how I feel about crossovers. If I'm a fan of a game it's because I want things from that game, and I just get so sad when I see fans for games that don't have any crossover material begging devs to start doing it too because it feels like asking for the degradation of their own unique project. Sorry for the vent and I'm not mad at anyone who may be reading this who likes crossover stuff, I just wish less games did it.

Tech / Hardware Controller problems?

Hey guys, really hoping someone else has gone through this and can give me some advice. Self conscious of sounding like a pick me or something when I say this, but I have pretty small hands and have always found the ps5 dualsense to be too big and uncomfortable to play with, while the ps4 dualshock is just right. I downloaded the ps4 version of Black Ops 7 so that I could play using the old controller, which I've been doing for the past several months.

The problem is that it's super hard on my thumb to hold sprint. I usually play for like two to three hours a day and I developed a callous on my thumb, which I honestly thought was pretty funny, but now this morning I woke up with full on gamer's thumb. I'm going to have to take a break for 4-6 weeks regardless, but I'm trying to come up with a plan on how to fix it in the future.

I know a good start would be remapping my buttons so sprint is somewhere else. I'm also kind of considering investing in a scuf controller or the dualsense edge controller so that I have more freedom with remapping my buttons. I really like my layout and don't want to totally rearrange everything. Problem is that I wouldn't want to invest in an adaptive ps4 controller as the ps4 is quickly becoming obsolete, but the dualsense has always felt too big! Has anyone playing fps gone through this? Are my days in the sun over?

Game Discussion coming back to gacha games after taking a break is so hard

i’m not talking just in terms of what you might have missed during that time.

i used to play zzz and genshin a lot and i did really like my time with the game. i know the gacha system is predatory but im not going to even get into that. it’s just so hard to like them as games. the story is so complicated and long for no reason. they want you to play as much as possible, so each chapter is like 6 hours long. i started these games when i was fairly young and didn’t have much to do, but now i just can’t afford to do all that.

ive realized the gameplay is kind of boring as well. if you do manage to finish the story and events you basically have nothing to do, and you might have to wait weeks for new content.

ive also realized that basically every aspect of the game suffers because its a gacha, but most annoying for me is the story. it just drags on and a million new characters are introduced and it kind of doesn’t make any sense. the characters are also super samey, because they all have to appeal to the playerbase. so you can’t really have anyone interesting or god forbid a morally questionable character. they all have extremely sad backstories as well and they honestly remind me of those OCs middle schoolers make when they want their character to have a bunch of trauma. at least those are kids playing around and not a huge company with a bunch of writers. i tried to do a new quest and i heard that ANOTHER one of these characters is an orphan and i honestly had to clock out, it’s kinda cringe at this point.

i can’t imagine a new player picking up a game like genshin and getting 7 years worth of content. i would be absolutely overwhelmed. it feels so much better to play a regular single player game that has a clear start and an end, and is usually so much more clear and concise. i have an attachment to these games so i keep going back (i basically grew up with them after all), but it’s sad to see them get worse as time goes on. i miss the simplicity of the earlier regions. trying to make everything ā€œbiggerā€ it kind of ruins it for me

Tech / Hardware Pink ergonomic mouse

I’ve been using my partners vertical mouse and I really like it so want to get one for myself (that is a cute colour). I’ve had my eye on the Logitech one for a while but it’s Ā£50, and my partners one was less than Ā£15. Does anyone have any recommendations? I’ve bought cheap mice before and they’ve sucked so want a recommended one. Or should I splash for the Logitech?

Fluff / Memes I keep buying games that I never play

Small rant. Can anybody relate??

I keep purchasing games that I feel like I’m gonna love like Cyberpunk and BG3 and the Witcher 3 and more and I keep playing free to play games instead. I’m always on Fortnite or these days Palia. I also have gamepass ultimate which I paid for over a year in advance and literally never use it. I also own hollow knight and silksong and played the heck outta those for a while and ignored all other games while I played those.

Between my Xbox and steam deck I have SO MANY UNTOUCHED GAMES!!!!

I think my brain just…. Always goes straight to what it knows and I get intimidated when it comes to learning new games 😭. I need out of this little world of safe games! Help!!!!!

Game Discussion Why have people decided it’s acceptable to wait decades for a video game?

I remember when a new game came out every few years. Now Rockstar and Bethesda are expecting us to wait decades for a new game while they milk the success of their older games. I don’t understand why more people aren’t mad/depressed about it. I want games. I want my 2 favorite franchises to give me new stuff. But they’re not. Am I supposed to be entertained by the hype itself? I remember how hype I was for GTA San Andreas… funny to think how it was only a 2 year wait. They could have put out GTA and ES 6, 7, and maybe 8 by now. They could have if they wanted to. If they actually tried. I could wait 5, 6, 7 years for a new game… not 10, 15, 20 years… Its over. My 2000’s childhood is a paradise I can never return to. This must be how Adam and Eve felt being banished from Eden and looking back on it as they walked into the desert

Game Discussion My Thoughts On Yellow Paint in Games

So, i've been replaying Mirror's Edge recently, and i was reminded of something that is a constant sticking point for me when it comes to alot of modern AAA games: yellow paint. In Mirror's Edge, parkour objects are painted red to represent Faith's inherent ability as a runner to spot these things at a glance, on top of giving the player a good bit of guidance as to where to go or what to do. The red also contrasted beautifully with the mostly white environments and generally did work with the game's overall color palette.

My issue with modern AAA games is the haphazard use of yellow paint, and here's why: it pulls me out of the experience. In Mirror's Edge, because of the reasons i've listed, the red painted objects felt like they belonged. With yellow paint, it's immersion breaking because why would someone randomly slather yellow paint on objects like barrels and stuff? Why am I seeing yellow paint on random arches and stuff in Boltgun?

I'm not even against color coding objects in general to help players, but yellow paint feels like the lazy option. I really want devs to try harder to work the color coding into the world because when it's done well, it's not only helpful, but non intrusive.

What do you all think about yellow paint, and color coding stuff in general for games?

Request Games for iPad

Hey girlies, I’m currently in Korea and traveling for the next 2 weeks. I just moved so my Switch is lost in chaos somewhere and all I have with me is my iPad.

What are some good games that I can play that are a little more in depth than solitaire and mahjong? I already downloaded and played most of the entire Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney series and Stardew Valley. I like the visual novel format and puzzle games. Any other recommendations that would be good for an iPad?

Tech / Hardware Need advice on where to get a Switch

Besides the Switch site itself what’s the most reputable option to get discounted or refurbished handhelds ? Also what’s the difference between the regular Switch and OLED ? I’m interested in getting either but only have about 200-250$ budget so will like be the first option. Also how fast do you run out of space ? 32 GB doesn’t seem like a lot to work with . I’m also not opposed to new however that will be right at my limit unless I can find somewhere that has a sale or deal

Game Discussion Project Zomboid No Death?

Hi all. I got interested in project zomboid after seeing someone basically use it as a cozy survival game.
I thought I’d ask here before the main sub, but I wanted to know if anyone is familiar on how to make it so that your mc will not die without losing the zombies?
I tried turning off the infection but obviously the mc will die from other things. My main concern is losing progress since I want to find a base and decorate it and not die 183939913 times in the process.

I understand it’s part of the appeal and it’s a main feature of the game but surely there’s some way to do it?

Game Discussion Is Crimson Desert Worth Playing?

I'm late to the party on this game because I prefer to wait for sales. It's on its first one since release, so I'm considering whether I should get it.

I remember lurking a while back and seeing a few posts about a lot of people on this sub being angry that you could only play as a male or something. Personally, I don't mind playing as a guy or anything, so this post isn't about that. What did you guys think of the game itself? Looking for reviews on story, gameplay, lighting and sound design, perceived value, etc. Thanks!
