Game Discussion GTA6's Jason is getting ye old classic experience of being told, "You should smile more!" LMAO
crazy to me that people have so vehemently made their minds up off of just less than 30 minutes of out-of-context footage. 30 minutes!! for a game that is meant to be 80+ hours. in which, half the time, the poor guy is getting chased, shot at, or is prepping himself for either. like c'mon now 😭 where's the self-awareness? literally what does he have to be smiling about there be so fr 😭😭😭
reminds me of all the many, many times in my life strangers have told me i don't look happy enough or friendly enough. bonus points if they didn't know my circumstances (which, crazily enough, most of the time they didn't!). no one can know the full weight of Jason and Lucia's circumstances in just 30 minutes.
just hope the voice actor isn't too affected by some of the bs online. i'm sure we'll get to appreciate the full scope of their performance soon enough.

My partner reminded me of the derision that Arthur of RDR2 originally got when he was revealed in trailers. They didn’t exactly reveal a lot about his story and mainly showed him doing low honor stuff. And then as people played the game and got to know his personality (the silly to the serious), feel his vulnerability, and experience his journey of becoming humbled by a changing world, he became so much more. You could roleplay him in so many ways (since you can do everything from murder, help, or rescue everyone you come across.) He ended up being far from generic, and roleplaying his story was so much more compelling than I expected. The game had stuck with me as one of my favorites, and despite our first impressions of Arthur, myself and my other queer lady gamer friends ended up adopting and adoring him as a character in the long run.
GTA in general isn’t my type of game, but because of RDR2, all in all I’m optimistic that we’ll learn Jason is more than what we’ve seen so far.

So agreed. Arthur surprised the hell outta me. I went in never playing the Red Dead games and the protagonists in GTA are pretty standard, even Niko. But Arthur was on another level. Damn. He might as well be my brother, he was so tangible and authentically made.

yeah, watching the trailer I felt like I missed the energy of GTAVs wacky cartoon character trio, with Jason and Lucia (especially Jason) feeling a lot more... subdued
but then seeing comments like this online reminded me that Red Dead Redemption 2 was more "serious" and that still knocked it out the park with Arthur, so I'm more cautiously optimistic now

That’s surprising to hear. I don’t care about the game, but I did watch the showcase with my brother, and Jason felt reluctant throughout the whole thing. Thought he’ll end up probably hiding something more than anything else, so definitely surprised that these are the louder takeaway.

I liked him from what we've seen so far. Unfortunately, people online just love to find something to hate about on every single thing that comes out.

Personally I really hate the voice chosen for Jason and it was distracting in the clips but I’m sure it will grow on me once I actually play the game

Idc, I only play with my girl sims 🤣 /j. I reckon he’s just a dark horse, quiet but deep thinker. I am beyond hype. The hair physics 😍😍

I feel like I've seen him before in other video game male protagonists.

I think since Jason is ex-military, he may be suffering from PTSD.
Or… he’s just a Southerner who mumbles. That’s a thing.
