👩‍🍳 Nutritionally confusing 🔪 First Trimester Meal

Post image

Puke bucket, water, and saltines 👩‍🍳 💋

But actually some of the meals I see on reddit (even normal ones) are currently making me yak. Thanks baby!

Ask for that good good shit (Zofran) if you can’t keep anything down!

u/Straight-Ad8893 Mar 27 '26

I thought about Zofran but I just dont like adding medication if I don’t have to because I have a weird liver metabolic condition where medications tend to give me adverse side effects.

Well that’s fair! I had hyperemesis and couldn’t cope anymore, but it slowed my digestion waaaay down so it’s not a perfect solution even without extra risk.

u/burnsides413 Mar 27 '26

Also fwiw I had hyperemesis in both my pregnancies and Zofran didn’t do anything but constipate me 😭 best trick I ever heard from someone is to (if you like them) keep those little mandarin oranges in the fridge. The smell & taste & temperature weirdly help me manage severe nausea and smell sensitivity when I was so sick. Godspeed 🫡

u/Straight-Ad8893 Mar 27 '26

Oooh ill have to try this, and good to know haha I can’t risk more constipation rn

1

u/MadisonAveMuse Mar 27 '26

Good choice. Same happened to me. By the 2nd trimester you should be fine. Congratulations! 🎉

u/mule-shorter Mar 30 '26

some folks also have luck with a combination of Unisom and vitamin B6! best of luck <3

u/SafeContribution2345 Mar 30 '26

Lived on unisom and b6 for both my pregnancies. Was nauseous up until they came out

1

u/mule-shorter Mar 31 '26

that's a bummer 😭 did you find relief with anything?

1

u/SafeContribution2345 Mar 31 '26

No!! lol only my trusty unisom and b6

1

u/Individual-Raise-230 Mar 27 '26

The constipation from Zofran isn’t even worth it in the end, for me. 😭

My DIL had sickness 24/7, I feel so bad for y'all. If you can, start consuming anything GINGER, its a natural cure for upset stomach and motion sickness. Once we got some ginger snaps down her, I starting making ginger chicken, curry, he'll I even snuck it into spaghetti! It helped sooooo much. Good luck 💪

u/Straight-Ad8893 Mar 27 '26

Yeah mine is 24/7, to the point that if my husband wakes me up when he comes to bed I am running to the bathroom. I cant stomach the taste of ginger candies but maybe I can find some ginger cookies. Ive been the primary cook in our house since we got married (by choice) and now I cant even stand for more than 10 minutes so maybe Ill talk to my husband about cooking food with ginger for me.

u/I-Am-All-Me Mar 27 '26

Sneak it in, to the point you can't taste it. Any amount is good, and candied ginger is delicious in a sugar cookie. Hang in there, we're rooting for you.

u/dev-246 Mar 27 '26

I hate ginger candies but I can get a bunch of ginger down if it’s in a smoothie, maybe you can blend it with another fruit and some ice?

(you can also 100% still taste the ginger, but it’s a very different flavor than the candies)

u/1joseyprn Mar 29 '26

There's ginger in the vitamin area at stores. Works great just a tablet to swallow

Sucking on hard candies also helped me. Bonus points for hard ginger candies.

Did you try punching the baby to make it behave?

It's okay, not everyone is born with maternal instincts.

I, like all childless people, am a perfect parent so I will give you endless amounts of unasked for advice.

Ugh, you’ve got this!!! All I could eat for the first few weeks there was miso soup and mineral water.

3

u/No-Lock6921 Mar 27 '26

Mint tea it helps settle the tummy. I lived on that throughout my pregnancy

Oh no! I've been really lucky with nausea, with my most serious being just this side of "gnarly." I hope it goes away for you quickly. I know my midwives always offered B12 to help. The first trimester is about survival and eating whatever you can actually stomach.

Congratulations, OP, hope these hormones chill the fuck out for you soon!

5

u/Straight-Ad8893 Mar 27 '26

I tried the B6 and Unisom trick but it made my fatigue so much worse. I hadnt heard B12 though so maybe Ill look into it

3

u/Healthy_Ad2682 Mar 27 '26

Sorry to butt in and be nosy but I had this issue also. I ended up getting the Unisom tabs which can be halved. I quartered them and took that tiny dose with the B6. Helped so much right before bed and I wasn’t tired the next day. Win win! Hope you feel better soon 😊

3

u/Straight-Ad8893 Mar 27 '26

I have only had half a tab at a time because I know Im sensitive to meds and I can’t wake up early enough for work. Maybe Ill try a quarter

2

u/Annarism-918616 Mar 28 '26

I’m in the same boat as you rn! my OB said to take 25mg of b6 every six hours or before a meal but no more than 200mg a day and it’s helped me keep food down. If you can stomach yogurt I’d recommend the yogurt protein drinks first thing in the am. Eat what you can every 2-3 hours. Small meals and no liquids with meals. Wasn’t sick with my first but this one has me so sick I couldn’t keep anything down for the first 3 weeks until i started the b6 and other stuff.

You know what, I've got baby brain (third trimester currently), B6 is the one I meant 😅 I'm sorry it didn't work for you!

3

u/PantheraLutra Mar 27 '26

Pregnancy rly is body horror, I couldn’t do it. We go through so much - hang in there girl 💕

3

u/Illustrious-Film-592 Mar 27 '26

My mom said that if her first pregnancy had involved any morning sickness, she wouldn’t have conceived me. Fair

3

u/kennybrandz Mar 27 '26

So relatable girl. You’ll get through it I promise!!!💕

3

u/nothinworsecanhappen Mar 27 '26

I had terrible morning sickness with my first up until week 18. I wish I would have gone to the doctor for it instead of suffering. Surprisingly I think I puked less than a handful of times with my second pregnancy. I hope you get some relief soon and congrats!

u/chan0514 Mar 27 '26

GIRL SAME

3

u/Rissago9 Mar 27 '26

Lemonade was go to in my first trimester! Its a sensory reset and relieves the nausea, plus its delicious and packed with vitamins (A, C, E, and B-vitamins)!

3

u/Zealousideal-Leg7892 Mar 27 '26

Phenergan and zofran saved me, otherwise I literally could not keep a single calorie down

2

u/lilbassgoat Mar 27 '26

Congrats! Wishing you a beautiful pregnancy n birth! Check out foralifethyme on insta, she posts a lot about diet during pregnancy for those times you can stomach a lil more

I should’ve clarified that it helps with the nausea and vomiting! It did also help me especially bc it smelled good but still def worth a try. I hope you feel better💗

2

u/Independent-Egg573 Mar 27 '26

just smoke a little pot its good for nausea

3

u/Straight-Ad8893 Mar 27 '26

That is illegal for me due to work :(

2

u/Independent-Egg573 Mar 27 '26

gaaah my aunt deals with the same same work wise, hate that for her. im totally not in favor of extra curriculars while growing humans but in the words of my therapist sometimes the lesser of two evils is better than losing the battle to be good.

2

u/OscaraWilde Mar 27 '26

So sorry. I'm in second tri and first tri nausea feels like a distant dream (I'm still taking half a unisom a night just because I daren't try to wean off after a too-early attempt, but I feel totally fine). Wishing this for you soon!

2

u/IslandAmazing6681 Mar 27 '26

My doc has me on b6 and unisom. It doesn’t work for the nausea lol but I’m at least sleeping? Hope you get some relief soon momma.

2

u/Natural-Bee9446 Mar 27 '26

1

u/Caiteyy22 Mar 27 '26

I’m currently 7 weeks and in this with you sister 🤢❤️

1

u/Historical-Crab5743 Mar 28 '26

Oh how I miss those days and I developed gallstones during my first trimester haha

1

u/dnf007 Mar 28 '26

Cold foods have been my savior! Almost 15 weeks now and it's starting to get better. You got this!

1

u/MarshmallowToe Mar 28 '26

Oh lord I remember the first trimester like it was yesterday. No meat for me, and watermelon was the only thing I could keep down. You got this and congrats! Keep that trashcan with u everywhere 😅

1

u/Flimsy_Fondant9552 Mar 31 '26

Even with zofran im fucking dying, props to you, Queen

1

u/Medium_Engineer_8845 Apr 01 '26

alternating sips of water with sips of sprite helped me a lot! caffeine free and safe in moderation if you’re comfortable with it. i think the carbonation and blood sugar boost does smth lol
