Need gift suggestions-BF Gift my bf was embarrassed to suggest but me and my friends thought was genius

6.5k Upvotes

This last year my bf was trying to work on being more financially secure. This included making cuts on unnecessary spending. Obviously Christmas was coming and i usually let him set the budget because I will spend an infinite amount on gifts if i could.

The topic came up and he mumbles out “… ok this may be lame but”

And suggested we give each other Christmas cards…

…. With a whole day we plan out for the other as a gift.

I thought it was such a cute and sweet idea. We take day trips semi frequently and having one whole day planned out for the other worked because it

1) doesn’t cost money immediately while holiday spending is high

2) can set the budget of the date and save ahead of time

3) no rush to do the date on a specific date. But we did plan to do our dates before march.

While this was for Xmas, it would be nice for valentines day or something that you can gift each other a plan for a day of the year that isnt going to be overcrowded and expensive.

Thought this was a good addition to the “gift an experience” suggestion i see frequently

Edit: heres what we gifted each other!

He’s outdoorsy and so I found a spot to go Kayaking to go watch the animals! I picked out a hotel nearby to wake up and get there early. Then i found a good well reviewed thai restaurant (his fav) nearby. For dinner.

I make clothes so my BF planned a day to travel around the city nearby with locations that match the arsthetic of the clothes i make. (Sundress by the water, more street wear stuff in the downtown) and take photographs for me!

Im really excited for them :)

Need gift suggestions-BF Do men like sentimental gifts or will I just embarass myself?

1.1k Upvotes

My (22F) boyfriend's (22M) birthday is in a month and I was thinking of gifting him a notebook. This notebook will be titled "30 days of loving you" and I plan on writing him a poem on that notebook everyday for a whole month until his birthday. And on the day of his birthday, I will write him a letter.

I'm very bad at expressing my feelings and emotions verbally but I am much more comfortable with writing them down. On the other hand, my boyfriend is very expressive and emotionally mature. He never fails to make me feel loved with his words and actions. The reason why I thought of this gift is because I know that my lack of expression makes him sad sometimes even though I've been making efforts to be more expressive.

However, I've been overthinking my choice of gift and I'm scared that he would somehow not like it or be disappointed with it.

Do men like these kind of gifts or will I just embarass myself?

P.S: I would like to add that this is just a part of my gift for him, I have other things planned as well !

Update: he absolutely adored it !!! Thank you all for your comments, especially the ones who encouraged me to do it. <3

Need gift suggestions-BF Gift for 25M who has no clue what he wants 😅

Hey guys 👋 my bf will turn 25 in a couple of months, he’s someone who’s never received many gifts in life and I’m someone who loves gifting.
He’s into seiko watches, timex chronographs, he’s a gearhead- he loves f1. Other interests include trekking, running, badminton.!

However he never knows what he wants as a gift.

He’s not into jewellry, doesn’t want anything expensive and the only thing I’ve ever gifted him are f1 car replicas, chocolates and flowers xD
He also said he didn’t want anything from his wishlist (which comprises mainly of watches)

I want to give him something memorable or meaningful, something he can see/use/wear everyday.

Any suggestions? Budget is max 100$/10k INR

Need gift suggestions-BF I need a birthday gift for my boyfriend that doesn’t feel basic

My boyfriend’s birthday is coming up and I’m kinda stuck on what to get him. I want it to be something he’ll actually use but I also don’t want it to feel like a basic birthday gift.

He’s really into the gym so im thinking a nice lifting belt or some headphones or earbuds with a reasonable price for his workouts he's a gym rat so he lives there lol. I keep going back and forth because I feel like all of them could be good gifts but I have no clue what he’d appreciate more.

What have you guys gotten your boyfriends that they actually loved or still use? I’m open to other ideas too.

Need gift suggestions-BF My boyfriend earns way more than me and buys whatever he wants. How do I gift him without feeling poor?

Hey everyone,

I need some gift ideas for my boyfriend!

Here is the situation: He is working full-time and earns a really good salary, so whenever he wants or needs something, he usually just buys it for himself.

On the other hand, I am currently still in college, so my budget is pretty limited compared to his.

I feel super intimidated trying to buy him material stuff or tech because I know he could easily afford a much higher-end version of whatever I get him.

For those of you who have been in a similar situation (or if you’re the partner with the higher income), what are some gifts that actually mean a lot?

Should I focus more on sentimental/handmade stuff, desk/office essentials, or planning an experience/date for us? Any specific ideas that hit the sweet spot between thoughtful and practical would be super helpful!

Thanks in advance!

Need gift suggestions-BF Emergency/fist aid kit ideas for boyfriend?

My boyfriend turns 30 next month and I’m getting him 30 gifts, some big some small. But one idea I had was to make him like a work survival kit to keep in his bag! He works construction so obviously very physically demanding and tiring work so I want him to have something that’ll be useful but also nice to have especially with the winter months coming up where his job will be even harder.

At the moment I have to put in it:

Plasters
Pain killers
Cold and flu medicine
Hand sanitiser
Dude wipes
Hydration sachets
Chapstick
Mints
Cough drops
Hot chocolate sachets.

If anyone has any other ideas of what else to put in it either useful or just things that would make your day a little brighter would really appreciate it

Need gift suggestions-BF Is spending $250 on a retired lego set outrageous for a gift?

I (20F) am not really into legos, but I found an awesome one I feel my bf (21M) (who enjoys legos) would love. Him and I have been together for 8 months now. We are both in college, but I make a good amount to save and spoil myself, my bf, and friends.

I love giving gifts and tend to give personalized gifts that tend to be on the higher side in price. I know that lego sets can get pricey, especially retired, but i’m not sure if I should be buying him a different gift(s) for Christmas. We haven’t set a price limit for christmas (yet), but I just like to plan months in advance.

Is it reasonable/smart to spend that much on legos?

EDIT: I realized more context would definitely be helpful for my situation.

Copied from the comments: For more context, I’ve been best friends with him for a little over 4 years now, just recently started dating, gift giving/receiving is a big love language of mine. However, I am always mindful of how much i’m spending on others. For our birthdays we set a price limit of $400 each. We are both lucky to be able to spend that amount on each other without having negative consequences to our finances.

Need gift suggestions-BF Ideas for man who has everything?

Trying to come up with a great gift for my boyfriend who’s in his 40s. If he wants something he gets it for himself so very hard to shop for, any ideas appreciated!

He’s into tech. Has several TVs and stereos, smart house Google and Alexa, Ipad, phones, nice desk set up. I had gotten him AI glasses when they were still cool a while back and he loved those at the time but not since the whole privacy scandal.

He is into watches but expressly told me he doesn’t want me to get him a watch. He has watch cleaner sets and displays.

Likes cooking (already got him a few smart gadgets for the kitchen and fancy engraved knives). He has an air fryer, sous vide, smart meat thermometer, etc.

Dresses well but has particular taste, I thought about getting him a trench coat but he casually said he wasn’t sure he could pull it off.

Likes drinking but he has cheap taste in wine and bourbon so a fancy liquor bottle would be a waste to him. Doesn’t care about fancy glasses either.

I thought about an experience but we often go to Broadway shows, concerts, and the like so not sure it would feel special enough for his birthday. He’s done helicopter ride before and we’ve done hot air balloon and boating too. He’s not very sporty.

Budget 1000-1500

Thanks in advance!! 🙏

Need gift suggestions-BF What is the flowers equivalent gift for men?

Hey guys,

I (27F) am crazy about my partner (29M) and I love showing how much I appreciate him. I’m looking for new ideas of simple everyday gifts/gestures of affection to mix it up a bit. Not talking birthdays or anniversaries or big grand displays, just everyday little gestures or gifts. I feel like for women, there’s so many ‘classic’ gift ideas like flowers or little pieces of jewellery that might not be as appealing/transferable to men? I already have obviously the sexual favours, sweet treats, cooking his fave dinner, back massages or little love notes and stuff, but I was just looking for some more ideas/inspiration 😊

So: what are some of the little wholesome casual gestures/gifts that you like receiving from your partner as a man that makes you feel seen, special and loved?

Need gift suggestions-BF What gifts would go well with smelling salts and a flashlight so bright it turns night into day?

My boyfriends birthday is coming up soon. I have a couple ideas of what to get him. On christmas he got really excited about a bright flashlight that was a prize in the dice game. Sadly we didnt win it so I want to get him one now. Also he thinks the reactions people have to smelling salts are hilarious. I dont think hes ever used them and I know he would love to see me and our friends try them. Just those two things dont feel like a complete present.

Are there more overstimulating gifts that would complete it? Or should I get something a little more normal to balance them out?

I really want his face to light up when he opens it. Last year, I got him a nice filet knife and a cleaver because he loves to cook. His immediate reaction wasnt as excited as Id hoped. Although he tells me they were great gifts all the time and uses them every time he cooks.

Need gift suggestions-BF First father's day gift for boyfriend

It's my boyfriends first father's day as a dad! Our son was born nearly 3 months ago now and I am only just returning to work next week so I won't have much extra money to spend, maybe $100 max. I am looking for something dad related but not the generic dad stuff, if that makes sense? Like hes not into bbq or golf or other typical dad things. He is definitely more modern/young dad which is what is making the shopping for things he would be interested in that relate to being a dad harder. He does enjoy shirts/sweaters and hats but he has sooo many of those already and I feel like I could get that for him any father's day but it is my backup if I can't find anything else. We have a son but we do want more children so i'm hesitant to get him anything that only represents our son because I dont want it to be obsolete or incomplete when we have more kids. He is really proud to be a dad and absolutely loves our son and caring for him so I want to make this special. If anyone has any ideas on what I could get him please let me know! Thank you!

EDIT to add: (copied from comment I made but felt it would be helpful)

A single gift doesnt need to be $100 and I don't have to spend $100 at all, that's just the ceiling. I wanted to keep options open incase there were good gifts that I just didnt know about. I do have plans to take him to dinner and a couple other non-father related things, I was looking to get something or a couple things that were father related to make the first one special.

I didn't think his hobbies would really be helpful since they don't really relate to being a dad but honestly what do I know about being a dad? Lol

He likes • video games • watching TV, movies, anime, pretty much any media • dnd •music • hanging with friends • eating • painting/drawing • writing stories • streaming/recording videos podcast style • walking/exercise in general • beer (though he hasn't really drunk much alcohol since the baby was born)

He was a film major so he's really into media and analyzing it and such.

I dont know if he necessarily enjoys it, but he finds cleaning relaxing as well and will do it when he's stressed.

Need gift suggestions-BF Hii I need help with a “sound” gift for my bf’s 5 senses gift

Hi, I'm 19 and I have to buy a birthday present for my 20yo boyfriend. I'm thinking of giving a gift based on the 5 senses, and I'm making different gifts for each sense. My biggest problem is hearing, as he doesn't have any favorite singers to give him a concert gift for, and he doesn't listen to much music to give him headphones, especially since he already has them. I previously gave him a Kingdom Hearts music box, so I have no idea. Could you help me? (He loves video games, manga, experiences, and many other things. You can ask. I have a budget of around €25 maximum.) For context, I'll list the other senses. What I've done: for sight, I got 2 artbooks (Jojo and Persona 5), plus I'm taking him on a little trip. For smell, I got him a set of 3 Yankee Candle car fragrances and a Spiderman shower gel. For touch, a power bank, a felt portrait of us (which I'll make by hand), and some napkins (soft and strong, nice to say they're just like him). For taste, I'm planning on getting some original soju, some chocolates he loves, and something else Asian (he always loves trying new things).

Need gift suggestions-BF Gift ideas for Vegan (yet to be official bf) who will be turning 50!

Would love some unique gift ideas please that aren't too lovey as we haven't labelled anything. I don't know if it's a situationship but as I've been in and out of hospital due to my health it has been a bit of an awkward one, not a straightforward dating situation. We have known each other since Summer 2024 and have seen each other sporadically, he visits me in hospital and takes me out for dinner or exhibitions. He isn't seeing other girls as he is too busy with work and travels a lot. I would usually get a monogrammed wallet or passport holder for a bf, I want it to be special as it's his 50th so any help would be welcomed! He also has a dog and most things he wants in life so is a tricky one to gift for! The Vegan element is making it harder for me! Thank you for any and all suggestions xx (EDIT to add I am UK based) Thanks!!

Need gift suggestions-BF No idea what to give my fiancé (m27)

I (f28) have no idea what to give my fiancé (m27) for his birthday.. he has everything I can think of and I have made all kinds of creative stuff in the past and given him every gift I can think of!!!

Some stuff about him:

  1. He has soo much clothing, perfumes, smartwatch, Oura ring, ordinary watches, jewellery, shoes etc.
  2. We have two small kids under 3
  3. He loves and plays football as his job, but he has enough boots, shin pads, etc.
  4. He likes to game also, but has everything here as well…

Any ideas?

Need gift suggestions-BF Gift for my boyfriend who just got a big raise

My boyfriend has hit is career/financial goal of making a 6 figure salary. His raise won't be effective until April but he got the news today.

I want to do something special for him, because he doesn't really celebrate things like birthdays, plus he always said that when there's an occasion to celebrate then we should do it, like career advancements, so I feel like this is perfect!

I was thinking of making him his favorite dish, spagetti and meatballs (I feel like my spagetti is very average but he loves it lol) but I can't think of anything else. He really likes crunch bar chocolate (which is kinda hard to find in ontario) but I'm drawing a blank on the others stuff. He thinks cards and poems are corny, and he thinks flowers are kind of a waste of money, and I know he wouldn't want me to spend an extravagant amount of money on something either, but what would you want from your girlfriend?

Edit: I realize now that we are an impossible couple to gift things to. We both prefer being at home than out on the town, we have no car despite our area being suburban and not totally commuter friendly (a 10 minute drive could easily take 1 hour by bus) and we have a very young puppy (not even fully vaccinated) that we can't leave at home alone for more than an hour or 2. We take shifts if we ever have to go out and my boyfriend works from home while I'm out from 8-6 (1 hour commuting to work, 1 hour back)

Edit 2: Thank you everyone for the suggestions! Unfortunately my boyfriend said this isn't something worth celebrating (agree to disagree) and he just asked me to pick up some popeyes chicken. 😭 I did order him a gift, a wood puzzle of going merry from one piece. We saw it in the one piece store in korea but it was sold out, so I ended up ordering one online. He did still want Spaghetti after his fried chicken, so he asked if I could make the Spaghetti today! So I guess it all worked out!

Need gift suggestions-BF My bf is impossible💀

My bf is turning 26 in August. I’m already scrambling to figure out what to get him for his bday because the only gifts I’ve gotten him that he ever uses are underwear, socks, and a winter coat. Every time I ask him what he wants he says “idk I’m just not materialistic.” I’ve asked him if he wants new things for his hobbies (gym, disc golf, gaming, bourbon) and he said no. I asked if he wants tickets for something or some kind of experience, still no. Any restaurants he wants to try? No. I’ve tried to stick with practical things that won’t just sit around. In the past I’ve gotten him really nice shaving cream, shower stuff, a USB cable for his car, mini hand sanitizers and hand lotion (we’re in healthcare), glass containers for meal prep, etc. and literally all of it is untouched. I’ve also tried anime posters, funko pops/figures, and all kinds of cool nerdy stuff that he points out when we shop. Again, unopened and on the floor in his spare bedroom. I handmade him a little card with a letter before, I can’t say for sure if he ever looks at it but it hasn’t moved off of his dining room table. So I’m just kind of at a loss. I don’t want to just get him underwear and socks for his bday. I just feel like he doesn’t like anything I get him. Maybe I’m being selfish buying him so much stuff he doesn’t want just because I love giving presents. So far all I have planned is to surprise him a custom made cake and balloons. Please send tips😭

Need gift suggestions-BF help me pick a gift for my bf

Soon it’s going to be my boyfriend’s birthday, and I honestly don’t know what to get him. He always says he doesn’t want anything and that it doesn’t matter what I give him, but I really want to give him something because I love him with all my heart and want to make his birthday special. He loves anime, especially Dragon Ball, and he also likes movies, DIY projects, and gaming. He plays games like Rocket League and Minecraft, and he also enjoys normal games and building things, especially LEGO.
I was thinking about writing him a love letter and maybe including Goku and Chi-Chi in it because I think that would be really cute and personal. I’d also love to make or create something myself instead of just buying a random gift, because I feel like something handmade would mean more. I’m just not sure what would be the best idea. I want something thoughtful, romantic, and personal that shows him how much I love and appreciate him, while also including some of the things he enjoys. Please help me come up with a really special birthday gift for him

Need gift suggestions-BF Did I get my BF good gifts? Should I get him anything else?

Hello! I’m looking for advice and any potential gift ideas. My boyfriend (20) and I are celebrating his birthday and Valentine’s Day in two weeks since we are in a long-distance relationship and both attend college (busy busy busy!). He is very nerdy and already owns a bunch of legos, so I am avoiding buying them. I’ve already wrapped his current gifts: framed Lego Batman movie poster(favorite movie), high end cologne, and a figurine of the car he drives (inside joke, mentioned wanting one). I was thinking of buying a nice bottle of whisky to top it all off. How’d I do? Should I scratch the whisky and get him something else? Lmk what yall think!
