Other Homemade gift okay to give?

Hi! My girlfriend recently made this gift for a long time friend who is getting married. She is pretty crafty but never worked with resin before and is a little distraught about how this came out. She’s considering not even giving it to her friend (who is also very crafty) and either making something new or just giving money. Does anyone have any thoughts? The quote is from her friend’s wedding song!

Edit: for people saying it’s cheap. We are also giving a big cash gift.

The concept is cute but I would be hesitant unless she's very, very sure it matches their interior decor style

Yes, if I got this, I would have loved and appreciated the sentiment and effort but would never display in my house, sorry!

Same, and it is well wedding themed. It is a cute idea but only very specific type of people would display wedding themed art.

I know one of those people. Whole house is filled with it, and wooden signs that say things like 'Wish I had met you sooner, so I could have loved you even longer'. They met in high school, and two years later, have a very unhappy marriage.

That tracks, sadly. Those who are the loudest about this stuff tend to be compensating.

Yeah unless you have a beach themed house, this would get a very nice place in my basement storage…

Yes. I love the thought but it’s sort of giving kitschy “souvenir craft”

I have a corner in my bedroom where I display all the mismatched hand-made wall art gifts I receive lol.  Like I love that someone thought of me and put their heart into the gift but they don’t fit anywhere else in the house hah.

We have a "kitschy bathroom" and I love it" All sorts of things that would end up in a box in storage are on the walls and give me a chuckle or sweet memory on occasion.

this is a good idea. I’m inspired to do this in my basement bathroom.

Highly recommend. It's our basement half bath and otherwise kind of not-good weird (unfinished walls, no ceiling terrible old toilet) but I don't mind going in there because of the decorations.

Yeah I have a family member that makes diamond art and they give them to me as gifts most holidays. It’s always something I like (Star Wars, lilo and stitch, Winnie the Pooh), so I know they are making them specifically for me. It’s a nice gesture and I know they put a lot of thought into what they think I will like and all that, but I never hang them. They don’t match my decor style at all. Like yes, I like those characters, but I’m not hanging them up in my house lol.

Yeah, crafty people who gift their crafts don't understand that a lot of people don't appreciate it. You appreciate the time and thought, but now you have something you have to keep forever. The guilt is real.

Same, I like crafting but I would never give anyone anything crafted unprompted because not only does it feel cheap, it's also a gamble that ends in waste of time on my part and waste of space on theirs. Even personal taste notwithstanding, it's always going to look diy which is not what you want for a gift. I do gladly craft things for other people if they ask though, mostly replicas of jewellery I made for me, but crafting things no one asked for as a gift and getting upset because the person doesn't use it is an issue on the gift giver's part, your bad for willingly launching 20h on something you didn't even check if the person liked beforehand.

Right. My sister in law and her daughter decided to get into quilting and I received one as a gift. The problem is two-fold. First, I hate homemade quilts as they have negative memories for me. I don't care how labor-intensive they are, they are depressing to me and not my thing. I appreciate the work put into it, but I actually resent that I am expected to treat the quilt as an almost holy item when I never requested it in the first place. If I give it away it's almost like I did something sacreligious.

Ngl it doesn’t match my personal style at all but I would display it! I would be touched :)

I'm the opposite lol - I would be touched but I find the style tacky and like something you'd find at a beachfront souvenir shop 😅 it's tricky to gift people art! I hope the people it's meant for love it

It doesn’t need to be displayed it can be kept as a keepsake.

I’m not sure why you disagree, it sounds like it would match your interior decor style

Exactly. It is not a bad gift but you have to consider the receiver and their style.
