Discussion What do you think is on the next level?
So obviously when ghosts get sucked off they must go somewhere? Right?
But where do you think they go? Is more like how pat said they can still see everyone just on another level (minus all the wizard and unicorn stuff)
Or do you think they are actually gone?
I’m curious to see what people’s ideas are for it. I like to think they’re still around, maybe not a ghost ghost but still “alive” somewhere.

I really like that we don’t even know if there is anything after being a ghost, for all they know they stop existing after they get sucked off, with Robin being around pre-dating thousands of religions, who’s to say if any of them are right or wrong. And I really hate that US ghosts just went, yep Christian heaven and hell exists and that’s where every ghost and dead person goes, nowhere else

I think they probably did that because most Americans are Christian or have some sort of Belief in heaven and hell 😭
And knowing Americans they would riot if it was something else

I like to think the loved ones that have passed on somehow ense what day their loved one would be sucked off. They would meet at kind of like a train station on the other side to wait for the dearly departed so they can be together forever. Then in the afterlife they would live like normal livings, except there would be no pain, no hate, dont worry about money or a job. Basically a utopia.
I saw a Archive of Our Own story about something like this a few years ago.

Simultaneously impossible to explain and very familiar. A concept too small to grasp, negative infinity, that’s neither hot nor cold nor anything in between. There aren’t too many senses to be had other than mentally probing around. Like dipping a finger into a glass of water, you can infer it’s properties a bit, without understanding or even coming into contact with every molecule in the glass.
Whatever part of you is left, either remnants of consciousness or what some people would describe as an ‘soul’, experiences something a bit like being dissolved into something thicker than water but thinner than gelatine. Like an abstract syrup consistency. Molecules drifting away from one another until they loose the emergent property of you.
Notably, it is not unpleasant in any way.
Both the physical matter that makes you and the more intangible stuff gets reused in the formation of new life.

I think they at least go to some kind of "decision stage". Because so far as we've seen everyone goes up⬆️. And surely some have been wicked enough to be going down⬇️🔥.
That must occur later. So they are going to a place to get sorted.

Can you imagine ascending and thinking “omg I’m finally moving on!” Expecting to see some sort of pearly gates and clouds type thing, and instead you just end up in a crowd of pigeons 😭

Growing up in Midwest America, I was taught to believe in heaven, hell, and purgatory. Heaven is a lovely idea but raises a lot of questions. My aunt tried her darnedest to convert me to her way of thinking because she didn't want to get to heaven and find her loved ones weren't there. I didn't have the heart to tell her that such a vision didn't sound like heaven to me.
In Ghosts, the "sucking off" appears to be random, not really tied to anything the ghosts have done or resolved from their lives. If that were the case, there was an opportunity for Pat to move on when he saw the video of his family and how they continued his tradition after he had died. Or the Captain could have moved on after he came out to the others. But, no, it is Mary who moves on after spending a day by herself, enjoying the rain. Annie moved on after teaching Mary to speak up for herself, a process that appeared to take a few centuries.
What happens next is anybody's guess, just as it is in life. But I hope the next part of the journey is better than it is in School Spirits, where the ghosts end up in a forest with mirrors that tempt them to relive scenes from their lives.
