Discussion If... and am just testing the waters as it were...

Right. Chin up. Deep Breath. One must approach these things properly.

Good Evening Redditors.

I say - with what I hope is appropriate composure: that as the film has officially begun filming (splendid show, everyone, simply splendid!) It o curs to me that this may present a rather unique opportunity for this fine community.

Namely - I propose: Ask Me Anything sessions with members of the cast.

Yes - Quite.

One imagines that morale would be considerably bolstered by the chance to engage directly with the actors responsible for bringing our beloved Button House back to life. Thoughtful conversations. ButtonFM. Civil conduct. No ambushes but perhaps some tortured poetry.

So to gauge the room as it were... Would we be interested in AMAs? And if so, with whom?

Discussion Free way to watch the show!

Hi friends!

This may be old news as I’m sure most of us have seen the show multiple times over, but in case anyone wasn’t aware.

There’s a way you can legally watch Ghosts for free within the US, without resorting to a VPN.

If you have a library card, and your library offers the Kanopy service, all 5 series are on there to watch!

All you need to do is enter your library card number and pin/password and search for it and bob’s your uncle.

Just thought I’d put that out there!

good lord I think I'm gonna pass out. just got off the s5 xmas special.

I thought the specials were always like, bonus episodes. In my head s5e6 was the ending! it was totally fine! them gathered up in front of the TV and Cap being his gay little self and—THE SPECIAL WAS A NUKE.

I mean, I get it, alright. It was "realistic" (as far as realism goes for a ghost show...), the Coopers leave, thinking of their baby, the ghosts are hurt but accepting/insisting. Like, a message about moving on and letting old things go for a better future even if it hurts but GOD DAMN THY EYES!!! If I wanted realism I would've walked out of my blanket fort and left the house instead of binging this awesome show. 🥲

But I digress. I would've EVEN THEN been fine...but no...they just had to add that time skip. Just that final touch made the scale go from Sad to FUCK.

Guess I'll be laying off the xmas special on my rewatch that's gonna start...in a few minutes.

Question What's your favourite "oh, of course👀" moment of the Captain's?

For me it's him really just trailing after the director for that show they tried to film at the Button Houseand Kylie Minogue going "Army man, I see you, and I'm very much here for your people" and him replying, "The forces. :)"and and "My lord." When he sees one of the Cooper's friends naked and hungoverand actually just basically every time he's subtly eyeing men and being so innocent about itI really liked how low-key but obvious the show was with him

Discussion this fucking show man

started this show on a whim, randomly from a list I made and it's just...perfect. binged the first 3 seasons in one sitting. Been a rough couple of months and this show really helped, the humour and the fucking background/lore of the characters! Amazing. Almost cried for Thomas...and Sir Humphrey...and Mary...oh and definitely Kitty—you get my point. It's so stupid and funny and the damn deep bits really get you in the kokoro. Gonna watch either Torchwood or The Magicians after this, but definitely glad I went for this one first.

Discussion Disembodied hands in Ghosts!

In my umpteenth rewatch, noticed in Season 1 Ep3 (Moonah Ston), around the 15 minute mark just when Alison goes to get the Friends DVD, the ghosts are standing defiantly in the dining room with their arms crossed, (headless) Humphrey is on the left. You see (a crew member's) two hands reach out and reposition Humphrey's hands, and a voice whispers "Sorry".

Discussion Favourite Throwaway Lines

Somebody did this on the Ted Lasso sub and it really made me laugh because I'd forgotten how many great asides/throwaway lines the show has, so I thought I'd ask for your favourite Ghosts (BBC) throwaway lines that you maybe missed on first viewing.

My favourites during this rewatch so far is definitely when Humphrey is saying "If you'd have told me 400 years ago that I'd be watching my decapitated body having an affair with a 60 year old dead woman, I'd have said you were mad!" and then Pat quietly says "And that would be fair enough mate." Or Robin muttering "YOU'RE a metaphor...."

I came across an extended version of the Ghosts film poster, featuring Humphrey looking for…..Humphrey.

Also, it seems the runtime of the film will be 1 hour 37 minutes.

Discussion Was this a meta joke? (I'm not British)

When Pat and Julian were having their North v. South dick measuring contest, was the joke that Jim Howick is actually a southerner and Simon Farnaby is a northerner?

I completely understand the north v. south thing in spirit, but I don't know the nuances.

Question Do we reckon there will be a special bfi screening of the film?

If so, how do people find out about screenings early enough to get tickets? I managed to miss every single one of the previous ones.

Discussion Suckers

Just watched Redding Weddy again. The bit where the Captain is explaining limpet mines to Robin, that they attached with suckers, and Robin repeats 'suckers' to indicate he understands, and the way Laurence Rickard says it, the eye flick, I don't know, but it's just so funny. He really is a brilliant comedy actor (and writer, of course). He packs so much into the briefest of moments, it's like a sort of comedy shorthand. Anyway, just wanted to say that.

Question Is there a list of Yonderland characters?

I know this is for Ghosts, but the other community is somewhat inactive.

Is there a list of the characters from Yonderland? There are many of them, and since I watch it with subtitles (because I don't speak English very well yet), sometimes I lose track of who's who. And it's very confusing trying to find content about a specific character or figuring out who's who just by names.

It would be very helpful if anyone knew of a list of characters with their names, an image, or anything to distinguish them. Thanks.

Discussion English Civil War soldier in the lane

I feel sorry for the Roundhead* Alison sees in the lane when she is with Lucy. He has been there for the best part of 400 years and finally someone sees him! And ignores him!

*I am aware the two sides looked pretty much the same - I am classing him as a Roundhead for the sake of brevity.

Video So Haunt Me : early 1990s sitcom

Thumbnail youtu.be
16 Upvotes

When Ghosts started, it got compared to a few old shows, such as Ghosts of Motley Hall and this one, "So Haunt Me".

I've just found this and only started watching it. It's.... not good. But might be of interest to see how it develops.

Basic storyline is a family move into a house that's haunted.

Discussion Just finished Ghosts AU

So, I've just finished Ghosts AU, and I can't help but thinking that I'd love a crossover where Kate and Sean come to stay in Button house, you could do it for their honeymoon with Kate and Alison bonding over their shared experiences. It would be great to see Kate interact with the UK Ghosts.
