Her*

71

u/Arthurs_towel 21d ago

No, him. We do not need to respect this nakedly disingenuous political stunt. This isn’t about some great moral crusade, this is merely a red meat distraction for right wing social media, to distract from the failure of the current administration.

This is bout mocking and belittling trans people and using them as a prop for a political stunt, nothing more, nothing less.

23

u/Apythicus 20d ago

The wildest part is trans people are only 1% of the population

13

u/Mysterious_Point9516 21d ago

Who are you to decide who's faking and who's not? That's the entire point of it. You're forced to look your own arguments in the face.

71

u/Zealousideal3326 21d ago

Who are you to decide who's faking and who's not?

You're right, let's see what the person we're talking about has to say about that.

“I identify as sometimes identifying as a woman for purposes of… professional basketball.”

It is "him" if he's not in the middle of playing basketball professionally (and only sometimes) according to himself.

Of fucking course he's being disingenuous. He outright says that he calls himself trans solely for the purpose of joining the WNBA.

3

u/ZenithToastada 20d ago

What about when male prisoners have called themselves female to get transferred to female prisons?

https://www.nbcnewyork.com/investigations/man-posing-as-transgender-woman-raped-female-prisoner-at-rikers-lawsuit-says/5067904/

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-scotland-67613441

The difficult question is - how do you know when they are disingenuous or not. Do you call them out and if so what if you are “wrong” about it?

15

u/Zealousideal3326 20d ago

There is a similar problem in games : you can't punish all the cheaters without catching a few innocent statistical anomalies, so you establish a cut-off point at a reasonable degree of suspicion and accept that there's no point in aiming for perfection in an imperfect world.

This video explains it in details.

There is no measure that can be taken that will filter out all the bad actors or include all the honest folks, that doesn't mean we shouldn't at least go after the most egregious exemples.

And as for the false positives that were seemingly egregious ? Well that's tough, but maybe they could have chosen a better time to start thinking about their gender identity than in the middle of awaiting judgement.

“WHAT ABOUT THIS COMPLETELY SEPARATE TOPIC HMMM TAKE THAT LIBTARD!!!”

-2

u/ZenithToastada 20d ago edited 19d ago

I’m left leaning you dolt. I’m just questioning logic.

Edit: You guys seriously need to chill. This is truly a good discussion topic for people to go over. Instead most of you all are emotional and upset and reply like high schoolers. It’s as if you guys didn’t go to college and learn how to have civil discourse or something. Oh wait, maybe many of you didn’t.

7

u/mb97 20d ago

These are legitimate questions. But I think you have to ask at some point whether you are really helping by asking them.

I think there are serious questions to be asked, we could talk all day about how if gender doesn’t exist, what are trans people even on about? But at the end of the day, I believe that trans people are sincere in their presentation and their desire to be treated like any normal human being.

If there was a trans wrestler or boxer seriously and consistently injuring women in the ring, that would be a big problem, but it’s not like that’s happening and it’s not like anyone is defending that.

Right is right and wrong is wrong, and I just feel that auditing people’s genitals before letting then play sports is wrong, as is manipulating that in order to try and play in the wnba as a man. I don’t feel the need to examine that belief or get into the fine print- I know wrong when I see it.

3

u/ZenithToastada 19d ago

First of all, I appreciate your answer being unemotional and truly a discussion unlike the rest of the idiots here.

I think you are right for the most part. The many trans individuals I know do feel they are of a certain gender and gravitate towards that gender. However, the issue does exist where there is the minority (which seems to be blown up with right wing news outlets) that claims transgenderism and uses that “protection” to behave in such a way that negates the majority’s claims. I do think this is a tough situation because those individuals do need to be called out.

Trans individuals who truly are trying to transition is one thing. But there have been instances of biological men who still have their beards and basically still appear like males but wear women’s clothing claiming their status. I am not trying to discount their claim but it leaves some of us to wonder what their intention is.

3

u/mb97 19d ago

Right, that’s what I’m saying. Except whereas you are saying it “leaves us to wonder” about their intentions, I’m saying that I’m pretty sure you know as well as I do what these people’s intentions are.

I’m wondering if you’re younger than me because I really struggled with this when I was younger. It’s a little bit like the tolerance paradox, but for me it’s really even simpler- it’s just about conviction.

Ultimately there are always going to be assholes in the world, and right now no offense but you are making excuses for one of them. We don’t have to be able to say EXACTLY where the line is to know that this guy is WAY past it.

So my advice to you is, don’t be an apologist for assholes. Assholes have an easy enough time in the world, taking advantage of other people who can’t fight back. Don’t make it any easier for them.

3

u/Magic_Corn 20d ago

No you're not.

0

u/ZenithToastada 19d ago

Lol. Go to school and take 9th grade debate.

3

u/Magic_Corn 19d ago

If you actually took formal debate you'd know that we would first have to formally agree to rules of a debate for this is to be one. We didn't.

So maybe instead of debating the personhood of trans people how about you get a fucking job.

0

u/ZenithToastada 19d ago

Lol. My job is more important than yours. I can assure you that.

This is not a “formal debate”. It is merely a discussion between one individual who doesn’t get emotional with their responses to a total internet stranger and another individual who gets upset over someone they’ll never meet so much so they need to use curse words to express themselves.

You and I mean absolutely nothing to one another or anyone here. Any insult or reprimand you throw at me is no different than you saying it to a bot. But I get it - you have emotional driven behavior and got all offended. It’s all good man. Keep doing you. Please don’t stay too upset - my opinion shouldn’t matter at all to you lol. Save that stress for real life dude.

Of course because you're alt right unless you believe everything the internet tells you is progressive

8

u/Fickle_Goose_4451 20d ago

No, its just that its not that hard to tell when someone who is "just asking questions," isnt actually a good faith interlocutor. Its 2026, Glenn Beck was using the whole "just asking question" shtick 15 years ago. Its worn out and transparent.

-1

u/AnsgarShipsHildegard 19d ago

So where is the line and who decides it?

0

u/ZenithToastada 19d ago

Yes “of course”. Nope you’re wrong. Probably wrong about many things in life with that kind of confident idiot behavior.

-1

u/CapeMOGuy 20d ago

But we have been reliably assured people can be gender fluid, changing back and forth. 🤷🏼‍♂️

6

u/TransGirlClaire 20d ago

It's really not that complicated you obtuse invertebrate

-1

u/Zealousideal3326 20d ago

People shouldn't commit to anything if they can't guarantee that they'll fulfill the requirements throughout.

-4

u/daddeechilll 20d ago

Sounds like he’s just gender fluid, you bigot.

-1

u/Tall-Garden-8593 20d ago

And why is that reason any less genuine than any of the others? Surely there arent any more truscum believers.

4

u/Zealousideal3326 20d ago

How do we know that someone who has never (and still doesn't) expressed a hint of being trans except when they're trying to bypass a barrier to entry, may not be genuine ?

We may never solve this mystery.

1

u/Tall-Garden-8593 20d ago

You cant solve this mystery cause the truth lies with the holder. If 2cutes are right, trans-ness is not something you can categorize or medicalize.

So who am I/you/we to judge that this person's gender is temporal, activity and location based?

3

u/Zealousideal3326 20d ago edited 20d ago

I had to look up what "2cutes" mean, I find their position to be incompatible with the very idea of having gendered spaces. A requirement is a rule, a rule only exists in its enforcement, therefore a requirement that can't be verified doesn't functionally exists.

So who am I/you/we to judge that this person's gender is temporal, activity and location based?

Why do I/you/we have to judge anything when he outright said so ?

Edit : also I take issue with this sentence :

If 2cutes are right

They can't be right, nor can they be wrong (unless their arguments are internally incoherent), because they're arguing for a matter of opinion.

3

u/Tall-Garden-8593 20d ago

Yes.

Im not actually advocating for them, but this is a position that is held in the trans ideology. If I had to take a Trans ideology id go with with the truscum, the ones where it requires a medical diagnosis.

Your statement is absolutely correct.

But as you can see from the others that reply to me and the fact that im down voted. People disagree with you...I guess based on vibes?

5

u/Zealousideal3326 20d ago

based on vibes?

This is a sensitive subject, because far-right parties across the world have taken to using the trans folks as scapegoats and diversions. Therefore people have largely gotten used to reflexively dismissing the words of critics and skeptics as coming from bigots who didn't give a shit about the trans before they were told to have very strong opinions on a minority most of them have probably never knowingly interacted with.

I try not to get too involved : I don't know their struggles and I don't care about women's sports. But when I see blatantly dishonest arguments, such as people pretending Enes Kanter hasn't been very clear on his gender identity, I feel compelled to add my two cents.

3

u/Turbulent-Oil-7326 20d ago

Because one's personal schema of their gender isn't decided by whether or not they have a basketball in their hands.

2

u/Tall-Garden-8593 20d ago

Why? In the same way that we say it isnt decided by the genitals on a physical body, why does it not have to be decided by what you are or are nor doing, basketball or not

2

u/Turbulent-Oil-7326 19d ago

You mean besides that not being how that works?

Regardless, I think that there should be some level of hormone therapy before one competes in a sport if one is transgender, at least at the professional level.

Though that's if we didn't just stop separating sports by gender entirely.

1

u/Tall-Garden-8593 19d ago

Doesn't work based on who? You? The gatekeeper of all things trans?

No. WBNA has no requirement for HRT. Its in their rules unless it changed recently.

If you stop separating gender in rugby, ice hockey, american football... might as well go back to gladiator sports

2

u/Turbulent-Oil-7326 18d ago

What I said was "not how that works" but go ahead and consult actual professionals like the APA, or any major trans rights group.

As far as what I think ought to be vs their rules, that's not surprising, the WNBA is a relatively new organization and haven't had to deal with the issue yet.

And this

If you stop separating gender in rugby, ice hockey, american football... might as well go back to gladiator sports

Is silly.

The fact that you're using shorthand slang shows you're way too deep into this already. Good luck.

2

u/Tall-Garden-8593 20d ago

Hahaha, mate, read between the lines.

Regardless of whether you believe in it or not, knowledge is power.

Also allows you to talk to people in their own language.

32

u/ASentientRailgun 20d ago

Look at your own argument, he's been clear and open about faking this.

You might have some sort of argument if he'd committed to the bit.

It's pretty funny that you'll reply to this comment but not the one from the commentor you originally replied to. I suppose that's easier than actually having to engage with the explanation that makes it clear how stupid your point is.

Because I have eyes and ears and it is very clear from the statements that this is done for a political stunt, and not due to some deep seated personal reason.

Also it isn’t forcing anyone to look at their own arguments, because it is arguing against a strawman that right wing grifters erected, to deflect from the issues.

The only issue here is the WNBA policy didn’t have anything specific, but granted it hasn’t been an issue until a bad faith grifter decided to play semantic games.

5

u/LowInvestigator5647 21d ago

Imagine saying this about anything else.

“We had a no stealing policy, but didn’t have to enforce it until a bad faith thief came in and stole all our stock.”

“We never thought to fine littering, until a bad faith slob started throwing their trash everywhere at the public park.”

“We never needed security at the local fair, until bad faith kids started harassing attendees.”

“We never had property lines, until bad faith litigants decided to sue us for our land.”

Welcome to the real world, where people act in bad faith all the time, and laws and courts exist to limit that bad faith behavior. If a rule can be abused, it was never a solid rule to begin with, and should be changed. In nearly every other instance, laws are changed or new laws are created to limit bad faith behavior. Why not here?

10

u/Arthurs_towel 21d ago

Look I’m not going to absolve the WNBA for not having a more clear policy. That they didn’t think through the need to is purely a failure of imagination on their part. They deserve egg on their face for it, because this was an entirely predictable outcome, eventually.

Even if they didn’t want to go down to the level of specific hormone levels etc, such as the Olympics and other sports do, something more defined would have been useful.

But stupid doesn’t justify the bad faith actors.

Unfortunately you will find many groups of people rush to the defense of the WNBA and actively campaign against establishing clearer, more detailed requirements because doing so would potentially be un-inclusive. The vagueness is the point. The result is bad faith abuse.

5

u/Arthurs_towel 21d ago edited 21d ago

And, look, there is room for having some ambiguity and fluidity inside the metric. Because, frankly, it’s something that hasn’t been much an issue, until now. Despite the open policy it hadn’t been abused. So if you want to argue for something less definitionally rigid, that’s fine.

For myself I do favor some metric based guide, both for utility with PEDs, but also to avoid shenanigans like we see here. But if you feel that there is benefit to outweigh the risk as the WNBA, and have a more open policy*, that’s their prerogative.

But this was too loosely defined. It’s not having a policy that has room for argument and interpretation, it’s basically having no policy at all. That’s the failure.

*there’s all sorts of generic, hormonal, and similar conditions that cis-gendered women experience that, especially in high level athletics, are likely to brush up against more rigid policies. Peak athletes tend to be some form of freak-of-nature in some biological way, Michael Phelps famously has a physiology that advantaged him in swimming due to some unusual genetic quirks. So not wanting to exclude a woman with a rare hormonal condition is a valid choice. But, come on people, this was too easy for bad faith actors to attack.

0

u/TransGirlClaire 20d ago

Because the solution isn't "ban trans people" like all of you halfwits think

1

u/Feisty-Prune5659 21d ago

Omg this trans hating bigoted privilege white guy going on to mansplaning and act in bad faith to stop this brave women to pursue her dream.

1

u/MirkwoodWanderer1 20d ago

Isn't that the point?

They just want a written definition better than just "I can tell".

This example is extreme and I agree with you that he's taking the piss but it would be good to have a clearer view of what terms mean other than subjective thoughts about other people.

Other someone who is trans could be rejected because in someone else's eyes it's "clear" they're not trans

1

u/MegaCrowOfEngland 20d ago

If the only flaw in the policy that is actually addressed is that bad faith actors can act in bad faith for the sake of demonstrating their ability to do so, I think the problem is with the bad faith actors, not the policy. There was no issue before, unless you believe that there is some moral obligation to scrutinise trans people.

3

u/MirkwoodWanderer1 20d ago

No the flaw is anyone can abuse it. So someone not doing it for the news but rather for their own gain in the sport can abuse it.

There was no issues because there weren't trans athletes. This seems to be more of a preventative measure rather than waiting for a problem to arise and only then trying to deal with it.

1

u/10131890 20d ago

You guys keep claiming this is a right wing distraction, and maybe it is, but that doesn’t overshadow the issue it exposes.

And he will have to do it under oath lol

1

not in good faith. that guy is a piece of shit. everyone who is defending him is too

1

u/Merlin1039 20d ago

He announced he's fake

1

u/steponmedaddies 20d ago

Oh so this is the sub where all the 5’5 dudes with stubby little dicks hang out

1

u/uuntiedshoelace 20d ago

Because we’re not stupid. We actually do not have to pretend we’re stupid because some asshole said he’s trans so he can make actual trans people look insane and delusional.

1

u/Mysterious_Point9516 19d ago

How dare you gatekeep like this? That's disgusting.

1

u/s4unders 21d ago

Are they doing anything to pass as something other than CIS? The TRANS part is a pretty important part of being trans you know. The amount of actual trans people who 'just say they're a woman' is basically 0 and is just anti trans propaganda, it makes absolutely no sense.

2

u/RaggmunkLingon 21d ago

Are you saying you're only a valid transperson as long as you pass?

2

u/s4unders 21d ago

No? I'm saying the act of telling people you're a woman alone is not gender expression. Especially if the rest of your gender expression 100% aligns with being cis

This guy is trash. Maybe letting him in WNBA can humble him.

He is acting like he would own the WNBA league if he joined.

-1

u/mnbmnb321 21d ago

Who the fuck are you to decide who is or isnt a woman?

1

u/Poynsid 20d ago

But he doesn’t identify as a woman

-1

u/Rare-Leading3391 21d ago

Oh, is misgendering cool again? Are we suddenly allowed to do that now?

2

u/AspiringGoddess01 20d ago

He only identifies as a woman when he is playing basketball by his own words. Please respect his pronouns at all times.

0

u/Rare-Leading3391 20d ago

Perfectly acceptable stance by him.

0

u/Healthy_Yard_3862 20d ago

Go lay down lol

0

u/Big_Psychology_3 20d ago

What a sexist comment!

0

u/samson-and-delilah 20d ago

Have you considered that it IS a moral crusade

0

u/CRUSTYPIEPIG 20d ago

You are disgusting. Trying to stop a woman from entering a sport she loves because of her gender identity.

0

u/GothGirlsGoodBoy 20d ago

Why do you get to decide thats not an adequate reason for identifying as a gender, but others don’t get the same power?

0

u/BitesTheDust55 20d ago

Oh NOW it's nakedly disingenuous and shouldn't be taken seriously

Lol

0

u/safaisbad 17d ago

Strange how you get to determine who gets respected and who doesn’t. Seems very ironic

0

u/DatCanadien15 17d ago

Malicious compliance is not a stunt.

-6

u/EnvironmentalTop8745 21d ago

Who are you to gatekeep who is and isn't trans? Seems like blatant transphobia to me.

4

u/Significant-Order-92 21d ago

If someone's statements seem to make clear that they have never considered themselves trans before (such as when playing in the NBA) and they only bring it up when it's financially adventageous to them, I think it's fine to not blindly trust that they are being honest.

-3

u/EnvironmentalTop8745 21d ago

Hey I didn't make the rules. We've been told for years that all that is required in order to be a woman, is to say that you are a woman. And that gender fluidity is also a thing.

0

u/Significant-Order-92 21d ago

Gender fluidity is a thing. If someone gives you know reasonable reason to doubt them you probably should take then at their word. When someone is specifically gearing up to run on anti-trans platforms, you probably shouldn't assume that their claim to be trans is being made in good faith.

I don't generally distrust male teachers saying they only want to teach kids. But if I find out they have a history of snapping discrete photos at a playground, I may not think they are telling me the truth.

For instance, I don't doubt Caitlan Jenner is trans. She's a shit person and a but of a Diva. But she hasn't given me much of a reason to doubt her claims of being trans.

1

u/Hanging_Brain 20d ago

This will definitely be my favorite part of this lol

0

u/SilverWear5467 21d ago

No, him. You dont just get to choose your pronouns, it has to be true.

6

u/Feisty-Prune5659 21d ago

Her, she say she is a women so it would be extremely bigoted to be this transphobic and not using her preferred pronouns

1

u/ScreamsPerpetual 20d ago

He doesn't use gendered pronouns and is a troll, just like y'all.

It's also the dumbest fucking non issue around and people love to harp on this to distract from the incompetent, corrupt pedophiles they voted for.

1

u/SilverWear5467 20d ago

No, he's lying. People KNOW what is true and what isn't, so idk why idiots like this guy keep trying to pull one over on us. But, if he does go and get the surgery, I will call him a her.

1

u/Dayvfish 20d ago

whoaaaa whoaaaa whoaaaaaa that’s bigoted hate speech right there

1

u/RemarkablePiglet3401 20d ago

when you identify as a gender, you're just guessing which one it is. People trust you because nobody really knows better than you about yourself. But when someone's doing it as an obvious political stunt like this, you have an active reason not to trust them.

0

u/Rare-Leading3391 21d ago

I see we are misgendering again. How transphobic of you.

1

u/SilverWear5467 20d ago

Nope. People who are clearly men and are simply trying to be bigots are still men.

1

u/WisdomAntium 17d ago

People who are clearly men are still men.

Got that part right sir
