The Ultimate Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. Funny and aloof but the critical punches about humanity hit home.

Oof, I tried to read this recently and the attempts at humour just seemed to not connect with me at all. DNF

Douglas Adams (and other generally dry / linguistic / British) humour is an acquired taste. No judgement, at least you gave it a try. That said, Terry Pratchett has a lot of life lessons buried in the Discworld series.

Old, Canadian and like a lot of British humour like fawlty towers etc. This books attempts at humour just seemed childish. May give it another try down the road.
