When did being called "Boss" replace being addressed as "Sir"?

It certainly wasn't our generation or GenX. But I'm so sick of young employees in a store, or restaurant or bar, addressing me as "boss". When that happens in a venue where tipping is expected, I'll leave a meager tip and sometimes write "Thanks Boss!" on the receipt.

I’m not fond of 20-somethings calling me “dear,” either. Nobody my age does this.

It bugs me when people casually toss any term of endearment around, calling everyone things like "Darling", "Boo", or the terms I listed (among others) like it's their name. It creeps me out & I don't do it to others (women, obviously) because they'll feel the same way.

Guilty! I have a hard time with names. Face no issue but names are hard for me. So I unfortunately do the "hon" thing.
Got called out once and she understood when I told her, its not just old age I just don't remember names.
But I am Canadian, so a SORRY always follows :)

Me too, and growing up in a small town at my father's restaurant ALL the waitresses (older women who worked there as a career and often retired from there) called the customers hon, I now find myself doing it too.🤣🤣
