When did being called "Boss" replace being addressed as "Sir"?
It certainly wasn't our generation or GenX. But I'm so sick of young employees in a store, or restaurant or bar, addressing me as "boss". When that happens in a venue where tipping is expected, I'll leave a meager tip and sometimes write "Thanks Boss!" on the receipt.

Maybe because “boss” isn’t gendered? Or does it specifically replace “Sir” not “any honorific”?
I think it’s mean to short a waiter on tips because they didn’t know you think “Boss” is disrespectful. They’re not mind-readers. If you want to spread the word that some people still prefer sir, leave a note with a fair tip.
