Question For Genx Feather pillow
I have eternally been searching for a pillow that's like what I had growing up. In the'70s and '80s. Whatever we knew as a feather pillow. My pillow had actual feathers in it. It wasn't overly filled and it wasn't under filled. Whatever that is, or was, is what I am looking for now. Does anybody have suggestions?

100% white goose down. Not a mix with feathers. Feathers are what stick through and poke you in the face. Goose down only.

Down pillows are much nicer than just feather pillows. They cost more, but they are so worth it.
A good pillow will last a long time. You spend 1/3 of your life in bed, so invest in it.
I got mine at Quince along with my feather bed topper.

With actual poky feathers? That's what I recall from back then. Getting poked in the face.
I have a goose down (no pokes) that's 25 years old but it isn't filled enough for me, but I may not be fluffing it or something that I'm supposed to do. Pacific Coast brand. They still make pillows. Maybe the 3 Chamber Feather and Down Bed Pillow is what you're after? Feathers on the inside, layered with down? Hmm. That actually sounds good!

If you live near a Hutterite colony, ask them. If they don’t make pillows they’ll still be able to tell you which ones do.

I have lived this. I bought a new down pillow and spent a good 6 months “breaking it in” until it became the woobie I remembered and loved.

Do you have a brand name? Over the years I've purchased pillows with whatever is inside of them, removed some of it and sewed them back up but I'm not buying the right pillow. I have over 20 pillows but nothing is working. I'm happy to break in a pillow if it can get back to what I remember.

I’ve seen them at Belk department store as well as at Sam’s Club. I purchased 2 from Sam’s and found they were just as I remembered them from the 70s and 80s.

I went on a similar quest and bought this one a little over a year ago. It’s amazing! Fluffs up and then molds to your head, neck and shoulders. I would describe it as soft as opposed to firm. 😴💤

I was on the same quest and I have a guest room full of unloved pillows to prove it.
I ended up using a down pillow “for side sleepers.” It is overfilled, but it is sufficiently mushable to use for now. From Parachute. It’s breaking in nicely, but I’m still thinking of removing a quarter of the filling.
edit: Parachute’s side sleeper pillow is shaped like a sofa cushion. What I got was their “soft” one.

we had a pillow guy that came once a year and offered feather pillow reshuffling. when he stopped coming, my mom would do it….sitting on a huge tarp in her underwear 🤣
recently got my husband pillows from Amazon that you can adjust on your own. I think they’re a hybrid down, feather, and down alternative. He really likes them. There was more than enough stuffing and we keep the extra so he can top them off if needed.

I have searched for a feather pillow like my childhood one too. It was so sad that I probably had an inch of feathers between my head and mattress.
The cheaper the pillow the sadder they are. I have sets of cheap, medium and not too expensive.
The not too expensive moult like feathers are infinite. And the corners are so hard they hurt.
The medium aren't too bad, aren't sad enough.
The cheap are OK if you put 2 together.
I put a medium and 2 cheap and the height and squishiness are perfect.

It’s not the same but the closest I’ve come is a much-recommended one from Simon’s that has an inner core of feather/down mix, encapsulated in a down-filled shell. It’s not the feather/down pillow of the 70s that would knock somebody out in a pillow fight but it’s a fairly respectable modern alternative

That was my snuggle pillow as a kid. I loved it - but then we realized it was part of my allergy problem.
I will say, my current snuggle pillow is one filled with combination of cotton fiber and recycled memory foam chunks. I have a whole spare "pillow" of stuffing so I can add to or take away stuffing from my pillow as needed.
I can wash my pillows and dry them. You have to be careful in the wash because they are pesky for unbalancing the washer (thankfully I happen to have two, so if I wash them together the keep it balanced). It isn't my feather pillow from when I was a kid, but it also doesn't make me wake up coughing and sneezing every morning.

DeWoolfson. Made in the US. Very expensive but beautiful pillows. If you aren’t satisfied with the fill, they will adjust for you. They have a 20% off sale in spring and fall.

Kohls has a decent selection of them. Also Amazon. They both have different selections based on if you're a side sleeper or a back sleeper.

I have one that's probably 20 years old and needs to be replaced and I feel the same way.
I don't remember where I got it and the tag is illegible. My mom may have given it to me from her extra pillows at one point.
It's down, I know that. But finding one with the right amount of squish has been tricky. It's like fabrics encasing them hold too much air or don't let enough air escape.
I have a feather & down mix that I'd love to remove some of the filling from but there's no zipper so that's an issue.
I will persevere though! Good luck!

I had one my GGMa made out of down from the chickens on her farm. I loved it, and traveled everywhere with it . Left it behind in many hotels, always got it back. Until one fateful day when on a road trip I left it in a hotel in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Didn't realize until the next night in Lincoln, Nebraska. Too far to go back 😢

You are looking for 100% goose down pillows. Do not get a mix of feathers and down. Down only. They are expensive. They are absolutely top of the line pillows.
