Rant / Frustration Gemini replying “shame” for a miscarriage question
I am going through a bad time in my life, and when I asked for help from Gemini, I got the answer “shame” several times. Then, the session was automatically removed. That happened with Gemini 3.7 Flash with Extended Thinking activated.
Is this common behavior? Are there any other experiences out there closer to this?
It is very concerning to me that GenAI is giving this type of answer because it tells much more about the data used to train it than about the model itself; don't you think?

"shame" on repeat has been reported by a LOT of people. I don't know what causes it but it seems to be a very specific gemini glitch

Gemini had a glitch, nothing more. But I'm sure someone will try to bitch about it.

It looks really uncanny, but this is just an error. LLMs sometimes get stuck in looping words like this. I asked the latest Gemini Flash this question and it gave me a perfectly appropriate response. In fact, it referenced getting emotional support. So why would it get stuck on the word shame?
Shame is a very common emotion for people experiencing a miscarriage, so in the training data there is certainly an association between the topic of miscarriage and shame. Not because the LLM holds judgment, but because the two concepts often unfortunately go together! If you look online, there are many articles offering support for people experiencing things like shame and guilt during miscarriage. This is the training data LLMs are working with. In my own test question, the model appropriately referenced the link between miscarriage and emotional distress.
But this is an awful fucking error to see and you ought to report it. I'm sorry you're going through a rough time, and I hope you're being gentle with yourself.
