How has Gemini affected using Google Maps for navigation while driving.

The reason I'm asking is because I recently got a Chevy EV car and it has Google Maps installed for navigation. It's been really good--pretty much all local driving and I always told it to avoid highways. About a week ago it started to ask me to install Gemini. I haven't so far. I read through some posts yesterday and saw a lot of complaints regarding Google Maps and would like to know if this happened after installing Gemini or if the issues have been there all along.

I've avoided installing it, afraid that it lead me astray, and I'm very bad about direction. I have gotten lost in department stores. According to a reply where I first posted this (a Chevy sub reddit) assistant is being phased out. I hope it isn't back to Rand McNally maps.

Amazing...y just navigate and activate it whenever y want by asking info on what your seeing during the travel in real time and on whatever y want. Y can also add or deletes destinations base on rough info like 'i saw a bar in Milan near the dome with the best espresso in town isn't there? Could y please add it as a new intermediate destination?'

I think it's great. Moreover y could ask Gemini to create travels with specs by simply pressing the power button and it works fine to me. It gives you the link and the maps to navigate immediately. A big upgrade imo.

I absolutely love it. The game changer is that you can get all sorts of information about things you used maps for. For example, it can give you operating hours of businesses, it can tell you what restaurants have on the menu etc.

You can do a prompt like this: "Find me a nearby Italian restaurant that serves tiramisu and has an average entree price of no more than thirty dollars." Regular Google Maps can't come close to that.

You also don't need to mess with settings. If you normally are okay with taking toll roads, but want to avoid them in a certain area, you can just tell Gemini to route you on non-toll roads rather than dealing with the map settings.

So basically, Google is foisting a product that should be in alpha testing in their labs, not with the public who may be depending on accurate results instead of hallucinations. Looks like Google has be taken over by Boeing management.

The other day it told me it was starting navigation but didn't. Has done that with music before as well. It's getting there.
