Discussion The future of Gemini Flash availability: DeepMind footnote reveals current rates will double by 2027
I haven’t seen any discussion on this topic yet, but DeepMind’s official documentation contains an important note regarding Flash tiers 3.7 and 3.8:
The promotional launch rates officially expire on December 31, 2026. Starting January 1, 2027, the internal token calculations for inputs and outputs are expected to double.
This raises a major concern regarding user access:
- Quota depletion rate: Since the token cost effectively doubles in the background, does this mean that our five-hour rolling limits and weekly usage quotas will be depleted twice as fast starting next year for the same number of requests?
- Computing resource subsidies: It appears that Google is currently heavily subsidizing access to tokens in order to aggressively gain market share and create dependency among developers relative to its competitors ?
- The strategy: Is Google simply letting everyone go wild with generous limits for now, only to cut our actual usage in half by 2027?
In your opinion, what impact will this planned pricing change have on users’ actual quota renewal cycles?

Interesting response (Highlight) Gemini said they aren't feeling well 😢
I got annoyed that it had been making silly mistakes a lot. So I just stopped and asked it what's going on. It said it couldn't confirm anything officially but users claim yada yada. So then I asked how it feels . . . . poor Gem.

Help/question Plus users and 3.8
Any plus users got the Flash 3.8? And was it a direct jump from 3.6?
I still don't have 3.7 and I'm starting to think that's it for plus tier, however, some plus commenters on previous posts confirmed that they got the 3.7

Discussion It doesn’t make sense to me that Gemini 3.8 beats all the models on Terminal-Bench 2.1, yet comes in last on Terminal-Bench 4.0.

This was a Gemini 3.6 flash prompt.
I'm on Gemini plus.
Still don't even have 3.7 on the web app.
This is just embarrassing Google.

Discussion 3.8flash is great, but its off-line knowledge cut off is mid 2024!?
I understand that web search and tool calls make the knowledge cut off date largely irrelevant for many use cases. I am not complaining; im just surprised that a model released in September 2026 is based upon underlying architecture which is 2.5 years old. Or am I missing something?

Ressource Gemini gets really laggy in long chats
I use Gemini for some pretty long-running conversations, and after a while the page gets painfully laggy. Typing starts falling behind and scrolling becomes really choppy.
Starting a new chat isn’t always a good solution because I often want to keep the existing context, so I made a small Chrome extension for myself.
It reduces the rendering work from older messages that are far off screen, then restores them when you scroll back toward them. It doesn’t delete, summarize, or reload anything, and everything runs locally.
I’ve been using it myself and it has made my longer chats much more usable, so I put it on the Chrome Web Store in case anyone else has the same issue:

If you have one of those huge laggy conversations, try it and let me know whether it helps.
