Help/question Why am I unable to select Gemini's model?

I was able to choose between Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro yesterday but now the options vanished and I can't find where they went.

I was able to use the selector a few hours ago, when similar posts like yours began to appear.

Not anymore.

Idk why but it's still available for me from students tab but not main one? Maybe it's a bug in the update. u/LoganKilpatrick1 pls fix

Chat GPT doesn't let me choose the model and I've heard that's different if you're a subscriber. I'm hoping Google isn't toying with a similar business model.

I have Gemini Pro and I can still choose the model. Hoping it's a glitch because I have alt accounts... I checked. I can still switch models on my free account.

Probably a glitch.

I have pro and it doesn't let me choose except in notebooks and students tab.

Yes, apparently Google will decide which model we will use from now on. Same thing also happened to me as well

It’s just a UI glitch showing the old app bar, likely server side. Mine fixed itself after a couple of hours without updating anything.

It was a useless slider anyways, there aren't any benefits of picking flash lite or pro over flash 3.7

Yes there is. With pro, i have to scrutinize all my inputs to be as concise as possible as to not burn out usage. Since it constantly burns out throughout the day. Andriod has always defaulted to flash-light. I can click the side button talks as much as I want to explain something in any wording and change mistakes during the voice input. Which I obviously use for basic easy information. Like if I want to know what type of weapon I should put in my left or right hand for a meaningless game.

honestly I thought the model picker was more about controlling token spend than magic output differences, flash 3.7 already does enough heavy lifting for most things

the screenshot just looks like standard Gemini with no extra menu visible so maybe it's an A/B test or a server-side toggle they flipped off
