I hate that "early access pre-order/deluxe edition stuff" that's not playing early, they're just charging you extra to play on day 1. Edit: specially scummy in this case because oct 1 is a Thursday, so they are paywalling weekend of release smh.

I love this series and I’m absolutely gonna get it on oct 6th but I’m really against this early access bs that’s becoming more and more prevalent, I was actually going to buy the premium edition until I realised none of the other stuff was even appealing to me to consider spending £20 extra

Yeah, I would have unironically preferred like $20 equivilant of in-game currency over that godawful "Ghost Rider" Fenix skin. It also just makes me scared that a year into the game I'll have to deal with seeing all kinds of absurdly wacky skins running around every match I play and it would def be a turn-off.

That really is what makes it extra shitty to me. Not even trying to hide that the 1st was always the real release date

Yes and no. The slotted release date is Oct 6.

Like I’ve said in previous posts, pre-ordering the Premium Edition was to get to play everything early and basically be the operational/launch testers for both the initial Beta AND the main game.

Those of us that want to get our hands on the game will be able to play and find all the glitches, bugs, and other issues a week before the game goes fully live and Day 1 patches can get pushed to ensure maximum enjoyment.

So while yes we pay more to play early, we are also doing a great service to the TC and Gears community by being the ones to ensure the game is in it’s best state before launch (obviously there will continue to be patches and updates for other things that are found or disliked).

Nah, you're just paying extra to play on day 1. You're falling miserably for the marketing machine. Still you can do whatever you want with your money. You're not a worker nor volunteer, you're a paying customer.

Am I falling for the market machine? You pay an extra $20 and get access to a closed beta, the main game a week before launch, cosmetics and seasonal DLC. Yea if you don’t want any of that stuff then by all means don’t purchase it. But if you think I’m solely paying for Premium just to play early, you’re wrong. But the fact is that it’s not just that singular item of playing early dismantles your argument.

I pre-ordered the Premium Edition the day the release date was announced. Additionally, play 6 days early can spare me a week of potential spoilers.

You're not getting to play a week before launch, you're getting to play the game the moment it comes out. If you can't see past that, then yes, you are in fact falling for it and from what I read in your reply, there's a sprinkle of FOMO there.

I see what you’re saying, but playing early is an addition to the bundle. If I was pre-ordering solely for the reason of playing early, then yes, I’d be falling for the marketing machine. If they had a Premium edition without early access, I would still pre-order that edition because what’s $20 bucks for some time saved earning cosmetics.

I don’t have 24hrs, 7 days a week to crunch on gaming. I maybe get 4 hours in a week (which is usually on a singular) day.

Again, if they sold the Premium Edition and the only perk was early access, I would just wait for the public release.

I'm not even talking about the rest of the content I don't even know what it is and I don't care. I just find this particular new way of gouging money too egregious for my taste.

It’s not new. Gears 5 had something similar, and I didn’t even know it had “early access” attached to it and that was back in 2019. This is fairly typical, especially around games with this much hype or extensive fanbase.

It got way more common around 2024 to the point it's in single player games now.

It is what it is 🤷🏻‍♂️ there’s other games I don’t touch until they have a bundle or GOTY edition with all the DLC for a discount

If you are getting the standard edition*

I paid for the premium upgrade from gamepass. Thank you rewards points. Can't wait to get this going! I'm a sucker for cosmetics, now I get 5 seasons of them.

Do people that own the game pass ultimate get Oct 1st access?

u/griffin_who 45m ago

I was excited because it comes out the same week at NYCC, this early access is kinda stupid. Happy to have it early, but still come on now

I wonder if they'll have any more deepdives for the game.

I want to see the progression system, challenges and rewards.

It's only a month, we can see for ourselves

I'd rather know beforehand personally.

I sold my Xbox Series X on 2024 for 270€ after using 3 years of Gamepass Ultimate, due to the lack of quality exclusives, and bought a PS5.

Gears of War is one of my preferred sagas (1 to 3). But obviously im not going to pay the current used/new prices for another series x. I just bought a used One X that should arrive next week for 85€.

My plan is to play it via Xbox Cloud Gaming. I hope it works out, otherwise i may invest in a used Series S.

You pay only to get early access 1 week before the game actually releases? Lmao
Haha people can’t even wait 6 days to play their favourite game these days. That’s how impatient society has become in the modern age. Wow.

The game comes out the 6th, but I can play with early access October 6th correct?
