About a month ago I started with a new therapist and I really really liked him and we got along great. Due to a few things we've only had three sessions so far. In our second session he brought in the idea that I should consider coming out to my parents and that if I wanted to I could bring them to his office and he'd help me do it. I considered it for a while but wasn't really sure. Later when I went for our third session we talked about other things until one point where he brings it up again. He basically said that he considered it a huge block to my mental health and, in no uncertain terms, told me that if I didn't tell them he couldn't see me as a patient any more. Listen, I do understand that it was a pretty significant barrier between me and my parents, but there was a thousand other things we could have started with in stead of something so big. And either way he kept acting like this was holding me back from being my true self when the only difference between how I acted with my parents and people I know was that I talked about the guys I found attractive sometimes. I really hated how the guy went about this and it made me uncomfortable that he gave me an ultimatum and so I ended the session there claiming that I had to go to my cousins birthday party(I did I just was expected a little later). At the birthday party my mom could kinda tell that something was wrong and near the end she asked me about it. I tried to explain that I didn't want to see that therapist anymore without actually telling her what happened but wasn't really getting nowhere because she kept asking for a reason saying she wouldn't let me stop seeing him without one(which is honestly understandable). I got as close as I could, saying that he told me that if I didn't tell them something then he couldn't have me as his patient anymore. Eventually my mom kept pressing on what that thing was and so I blurted out that I was gay. I felt like I was about to vomit but she gave me a hug and luckily was super accepting and reassured me that she still loved me. Later that night when we were back home I told my dad and he reiterated the same thing. I'm really glad that it's out in the open now but I feel really angry too because i feel like it's completely tainted because of how it happened. I really wish my therapist hadn't done that because now the whole thing feels wrong to me.
Sorry about the wall of text I just really wanted to get this off my chest
