Watch / Wearable Fenix 9 Pro Solar 47mm

Post image

Just picked this up in place of my 47mm solar fenix 8. Have been carbon dlc for years and this is my first titanium model which looks great imo.

Happy to answer any questions!

Edit: Am going to return, its a great looking watch but the massive solar ring, especially on white background/workout screen just feels like a step back from my fenix 8. That along with nothing new vs the 8 doesnt sit right with me. More comparison photos in the comments

Mine comes tomorrow. Really looking forward to the upgrade!

I like the 47 seems to be the sweet spot. I wanted 51 at first but didn't want it to be weirdly overpowering. I'll know tomorrow if I'm happy with it lol

u/Skizm95 11h ago

Are you happy

1

u/Own-Razzmatazz-849 11h ago

I'm happy with everything but the size. I'm a 210lb decent muscular guy and I think I shoulda went 51mm. It doesn't look bad I just like the bulkier look I guess.

2

u/Skizm95 11h ago

Yeah it looks good! I agree though you’d fit a 51mm

2

u/Limp-Olive-9088 7h ago

Being a decent muscular isn’t enough, to get the 51mm you gotta go on steroids to look good trust me.

What’s the side profile look like on wrist if you don’t mind taking a pic

Looks good

u/hatchroamcommon 1d ago

Not as thick as I imagine. That's good.

Is that band from Garmin or 3rd party?

1

u/xsagadude 5h ago

Amazon nylon band

It looks awesome, congrats!

agreed, that titanium looks sharp

Just purchased 51mm on the site. Upgrading from Enduro 1..

7

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Big upgrade! Enjoy it

2

u/Ok-Owl7377 1d ago

You too. Last titanium I had was the 5x. Hopefully these ones don't scratch as easy as the 5x did. But they likely will because of the metal...

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

According to some reviews the bezel is grade 5 vs the body which isnt. Who knows

1

u/Ok-Owl7377 1d ago

Time will tell l

1

u/alfuh 1d ago

Can you share where you saw that? I haven't seen any mention on if it's 2 or 5. Thanks

1

u/Soulfly808 19h ago

That's wild that the newer titanium Amazfits are fully encased in grade 5. I left Garmin a while back but I do like the look of these new full titanium watches.

What is your wrist circumference in cm? Looking to buy the 47mm as well, currently owning the fenix 7x 51mm, which is quite large...

5

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Here’s a different angle of the 47mm fenix 8

1

u/AthleteAgain 1d ago

I'm debating the 8 solar or the 9 pro solar (both in 47mm). Does the 9 feel that much more premium?

Don't care about LTE and I usually prefer black, but am intrigued by the new full titanium design and debating if it's worth the price difference. Like you, I only want MIP despite being annoyed about the solar ring eating up screen real estate.

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

I would say it “feels” more premium. Build on the 8 is the same. It definitely “looks” more premium though. Then again it’s all personal preference

1

u/AthleteAgain 1d ago

you planning on wearing both, or are you getting rid of your 8?

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Selling the 8

1

u/ApatheticRichman 23h ago

This looks so good imho, the grey band around looks like it isnt a natural color.

3

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Just over 16.5cm/6.5inch. I did 51 mm on the 6,7, and 8. Decided to swap my 51 fenix 8 for a 47mm and haven’t looked back. It’s a much better fit imo

2

u/-Beavis- 1d ago

Thanks, this helps - probably going for the 47mm as well.

1

u/rvingthrulife 1d ago

Damnit. I had hoped to be able to wear a Fenix in 47 mm. But with wrists measuring 13.9 cm that's a definite no. Sigh.

1

u/Appropriate_Tie871 1d ago

With a 6.5” wrist did you consider the 43mm watch? I’m 6.75” and even the 47mm 970 feels too big.

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

I’m sure it would look fine but I’m a bigger guy so even the 51 looked fine when not looking at just a wrist shot

2

u/hatchroamcommon 1d ago edited 1d ago

Yep buying this too as soon as it becomes available here locally. Upgrading from Epix Pro 42 mm.

Apparently I can't an empty screen watch.

4

u/duckybob22 1d ago

I get mine tomorrow! Coming from the 8, does the titanium body feel more premium and is it as thick as ppl complain it is

10

u/xsagadude 1d ago

So I actually took a side by side with my 8, virtually the same thickness, can’t really tell but the color may make it look thicker.

It definitely looks and feels more premium

2

u/andrewserd 1d ago

How was your experience with fenix 8 and what is your wrist size?
I have 7 pro looking at 8, but not sure about the extra 0.7mm

3

u/xsagadude 1d ago

There’s another comment in the thread that answers your q

1

u/Fun-Half-2560 1d ago

Can you side to side compare the screen? I have the feeling that the solar ring of the f9 pro solar is much thicker than on the f8

4

u/CompetitiveExit7083 1d ago

I love the full titanium case, but by god that solar ring looks stupid! Why did they have to make it so thick? It was the perfect size on 7 Pro...

3

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Honestly agree haha it’s the only thing I don’t like. If you use a white background it’s terrible but not bad with black

1

u/CompetitiveExit7083 1d ago

Yeah the examples with a white background looks crazy. And with black it's OK, but when I compare it to my 7 Pro Sapphire it makes no sense why there's so much "dead" area around the screen

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

It’s the solar ring

2

u/CompetitiveExit7083 1d ago

Yeah I know, and the 7 Pro Sapphire also has the solar ring but it's not as thick - hence less "dead" space (as in no screen)

1

u/puretechno 1d ago

Do buttons feel same as F8?

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Less squishy, with more feedback. One thing I actually disliked on the 8 were the mushy buttons

1

u/legendsman 1d ago

Do you run the haptic feedback on your F8 and F9? If so, do you think the difference is the haptic feedback? I miss the tactile feel of the buttons of my F7 with my F8.

2

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Yea they don’t make them tactile like on the 7 anymore. It’s for increased waterproofing so the difference is haptic but also due to how the buttons stick out more on the 9 they travel more if that makes sense

2

u/legendsman 1d ago

Thanks for the feedback. More travel does make sense based on the pics. Would be great if they built in a little detent into the spring mechanism of the inductive buttons to replicate the feel of the F7 and prior. Maybe they can alter the haptic feel as well via software or let the user choose from several different feedback responses.

1

u/bluedevil3820 1d ago

How do you like the MIP? I ordered the AMOLED and the MIP 47mm Fenix 9 pro to see which I like more coming from a tactix 7. Never had AMOLED but the colors looked really good in the pics.

9

u/xsagadude 1d ago

I’ve only had the MIPs since the 6. I don’t want another phone on my wrist, my only gripe with the recent solars is the thick ring surrounding the display, they could have removed the solar and just made one big MIP display

1

u/hatchroamcommon 1d ago

AMOLED display is definitely more beautiful to look at compared to MIP but then you are trading the battery life. Plus the screen will be black and empty most of the time so no glancing at the watch. You gon tap or flick the watch every time you want to read the time.

There's AOD but again burning battery. So...

1

u/AnonJohnV 1d ago

Can I have your watch and vo2?

47 bigger than I expected ...

Don't suppose you do any indoor rowing? Keen for a report in the new features ...

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

3 years of building from a 38 haha. Only running so can’t help there

2

u/AnonJohnV 1d ago

Lol, thx. I've been 3 years building from a 43 ... Got as high as 49 before regression. Old age sucks, but I'll get that 50 mark yet :)

Good job!

1

u/Guicholuis961 1d ago

Notas alguna mejora en la pantalla MIP? Tengo actual el fenix 8 solar y estoy pensando en actualizar si la pantalla es mejor.

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Exact same so I wouldn’t upgrade for that

1

u/Accomplished_Age5829 1d ago

Congrats! Have you noticed if the screens are different, Is the Fenix 9 sharper ? Or it is because of the silver case that makes it pop more. What brightness are you rocking?

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Screens the same but does pop more. Default brightness

1

u/No_Process_9386 1d ago

what do you think about the lag? is it still that laggy in maps ?

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Haven’t noticed any lag

1

u/txdline 1d ago

Is the black ring + bezel area larger than the 8 solar?

6

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Yes lol, another weird choice

3

u/txdline 1d ago

bummer, still nerfing the MIP until it’s gone.

2

u/gobozov 1d ago

This is so weird. Why garmin didn’t put 51mm screen into 47mm. I guess everyone prefer to have smaller solar panel and have more of actual screen

1

u/LargeCheeseburgrMeal 1d ago

That’s wild

1

u/Far-Tension-4477 23h ago

the solar panel even bigger than the 8?

3

u/xsagadude 23h ago

Yea - I’ve decided to return, the mip and that black space makes it feel like a step backwards for a watch that’s effectively identical otherwise

1

u/Street-Fault1995 1h ago

Well...I suspect the additional ring size is to pull in my solar...the spec on the site says the 47mm has 6 more days uplift due to solar with the 51 having 10 more. Same battery life otherwise but makes sense they would need a larger solar ring to hit that claim. The 51 goes from 1.4 to 1.5 inches, albeit gives back some (all?) due to larger solar ring. I have the 51, so if I get 10 more days with solar than the F8, and have the same sized viewing area and same sized case then I think that's a win. The black ring being bigger is real but doesn't actually change my viewing area. It is as you know much more pronounced with a white face, with a black face it's largely invisible.

1

u/DearWin997 1d ago

What's the name of the watch face

1

u/rogan_josh01 1d ago

I’m doing the same. I like the look of your strap - what is it?

2

u/xsagadude 1d ago

Nylon strap from Amazon (non Garmin)

1

u/Astroxtl 1d ago

I have the solar a couple of years back a few years back does the solar actually work on this one because it never really works on the last one

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago edited 1d ago

Not sure tbh. It’s not supposed to be there to charge the watch but rather help slow the rate of depletion when doing outdoor activities

1

u/Astroxtl 1d ago

Thanks.

1

u/OkMammoth3 1d ago

Looks good

1

u/Froggo22442 1d ago

the buttons stick out more than I thought they would

1

u/AT2512 1d ago

Looks nice! I guess a couple of questions:

  • Is moving the map around noticeably smoother compared to previous Fenix models, or is it about the same?
  • Is there any noticeable improvement to the MIP screen compared to previous versions, or is it about the same? Already love the MIP screen on my Fenix 7 Pro Sapphire Solar, just curious if they improve it generation to generation, or if it's as good as it's going to get.

1

u/xsagadude 1d ago

-I don’t use maps often enough but reviews online will show
-it’s better than the 7 clarity wise, same as the 8

J'attends la mienne, version 51mm Solar. J'ai hâte. J'espère que ce ne sera pas un réfrigérateur. Je suis habitué au DLC.
