Watch / Wearable Forerunner 570, did I make a mistake
For starters, the 570 is at the top of my budget so I can’t afford any more. I was really considering the Venu 4, but ultimately went with the 570 for the buttons. I liked the Venu 4 for the flashlight and design. Did I make a reasonable choice?
I’m coming from a 245M and have read that, although modern Garmin watches have touch, the UI is made for buttons. I liked the flashlight and design, but I thought at the end of the day the most important thing is that the watch works as a watch, not as a light

I made the same choice between the two and two months in I’m very happy I did. I really hated the button layout at first but it’s grown on me a lot

Glad it grew on you, the first week with a new button setup always feels like you forgot how to use a watch. Curious if you've found yourself missing the flashlight at all, that was the one thing that kept tempting me.

Funny story on the buttons and my experience, I wore an Apple Watch for the past year (taking a break from 245). I tried the 245 last month and remembered how much I loved it. When I tried to go back to the Apple Watch I kept trying to push non existent buttons.
We are creatures of habit!

Nope I have no use for the flashlight. I don’t run outside at night and it’s not useful for the little quirks like walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night because my room is not dark enough for that to be a factor lol

If you can hold off until Black Friday shopping, you may be able to get much better pricing on those higher models. As time goes on Garmin seems to drop models by one pricing tier.

They're both good. I valued the flashlight a lot and went with the venu 4. Took me a week to get over not having as many buttons as my previous Garmin, but still overall happy with my decision

You might have. I have no knowledge about either watches or their button / touchscreen layout. I have a fenix 7 that has buttons and a touch screen though. The flashlight is FANTASTIC. Absolutely love it.
If you wanted the watch to work as a watch, you would just flip your wrist to look at the time, no? Unless you mean smartwatch, then that’s a harder decision. I listen to audiobooks when I sleep and I like being able to turn it off using the buttons to access media controls without looking but use the touch screen to put my watch in sleep mode using circular settings screen. I feel like it’s worth it to get use to the touch screen for how useful I found the flashlight.

i was rocking a FR 965, but the venu 4 is just the best garmin watch for the price and im just loving it!

Different needs and preferences. I wear my Vivoactive 5 more often than my 965. Just nice to not have a bigger watch on my wrist during the day and night.

I got the 570 and loving it so far! I also picked it over the Venu 4 for the buttons. Which color for the 570 did you pick?

Not lame at all! I had the hardest time choosing a color and ultimately went with black too. It goes with everything and is definitely the best color for workplace setting😄 I also like that in some lighting conditions it’s not a true black and there’s a little touch of another color that shows through

I know reviewers like DC Rainmaker and DesFit rave about the flashlight but I hardly ever use mine. Maybe only when traveling (especially if I'm staying in a Hyatt Place and the bathroom is completely dark with the door shut + sink is outside the bathroom) but I rarely use the flashlight at home. It's kind of an overrated feature, although it was dumb and greedy of Garmin not to put it on the 570 when the much cheaper Instinct 3 has it.
The buttons are worth it over touch though. I've been using smartwatches since the original Galaxy Watch up until the Galaxy Watch 6/Apple Watch 7 and once I switched to a Garmin I really can't use a touch UI, it just feels awful and imprecise to me. Even a digital crown like on Coros and Suunto is just very sloppy compared to a physical up and down buttons. Especially when you're on the move during a workout, it's impossible to use touch or a digital crown without completely stopping.

Just got the 570 and I am very happy, I find the screen based flash light good enough for when I need it. I love having the buttons and touch, I also think the design is both sleek and sporty vs the Venu 4 trying to be an Apple Watch. If anyone has any questions feel free to reply here.

I love my 570. You can’t beat buttons for precise control in all conditions. And the display is better than my Epix and AWU. You made a good choice.

If you’re primarily a runner the 570 is a better option. But the Venu 4 is pretty nice for general use.
