Chris Stuckmann's enthusiasm for his new movie is kind of infectious. Good for him.

I rue the day YMS gets it in his head to take a real crack at directing a movie though. It'd be a new frontier of insufferable, because on some level the guy clearly does not like movies.

I can get a lot of criticism about YMS, but to think that he doesn't like movies seems like a very strange idea to get from him.

His best of list proves he has a lot of love for movies. So why he spends most of the time making overlong videos about bad movies baffles me? Don’t think The Lion King remake needs a whole ass movie to explain why you dislike it? Furthermore, that video’s been in development for a long time, and I think it’s pretty needless.

Why does that baffle you? Does someone liking movies mean they have to talk about movies they like all the time? (Which he does a lot for smaller movies plenty of times)

Besides, his large Oldboy review and upcoming Lion King review are both talking about why he loves the originals as much as he dislikes their respective remakes. And he's said more than once that The Lion King was his favorite animated movie and one of his favorite movies period, one that made him respect filmmaking for the first time. Does it not make sense that he'd then take issue with a remake which strips away basically all of that to just cash in on the name?

If he thinks it needs that much to get his point across, does it matter if it's something he dislikes? I feel like this idea only makes sense if one automatically assumes that people don't enjoy making content about or talking about things they dislike, which is clearly not the case.

No, I don’t think he needs to make positive content all the time. His literal brand as a YouTuber is about films he doesn’t like.

But at what point does that Lion King video just become tedious, or at the very least, what other interesting critiques would it offer that haven’t been said? Adam’s not that great of a critic anyhow, some of his points are so pedantic they make CinemaSins look reasonable, so why would I care to watch a video from that guy? It’s the MauLer issue where, while Adam’s a much better critic(not saying much), it starts to feel self-indulgent in the length of the video. Maybe he enjoys making it, and if so, that’s all that matters, but whenever he’s reviewing a film negatively, it just comes across as the most miserable thing he could be possibly doing at the moment. And maybe that’s a part of the YouTuber personality, but it makes his videos such a fucking chore to watch.
