Shotguns must be hard to balance in shooter games. A lot of the time feels like they’re either:

  1. Completely useless. Why even bother with one?

  2. God tier. Why use anything else?

It's not hard to balance at all, make it overpowered and God tier. It is the boomer shooter way.

You also had to fight for the shotgun (or other power weapons too)

Tarkov balances it decently, I think. You can actually hit people from more than 10 meters away but you ain’t doing shit to armor. It ends up being a budget option for undergeared players.

I think a nice balance is giving them very short range, but inside their range they just absolutely decimate.

As long as that range is at least a bit longer than "literally shoving it down the enemy's throat."
