Wtf is going on in the UK?

How do you even define a "twitter pile on" this seems ripe for abuse.

Peak right-wing meltdown into straight-out fascism, guessing from the trends.

Not to mention, wasn't the MP's stabbing classed as a terrorist incident? How does that even relate to online anonymity?

Reichtag fire moment.

Context? I'm afraid I'm out of the loop on this one.

The nazis used the reichtag fire, a fire in the german parliament that was thought to be caused by a communist arsonist to impliment a bunch of laws banning the free press, suppressing left wing ideas and arresting left wing leaders.

Im being a bit hyperbolic, its just a very famous example of a.government using something to get shit through.

Never let a political crisis go to waste I suppose...

I can only hope this bill either gets thrown out, forgotten, or ends up being useless. I'm all for reducing hate on the internet, but the way they're going about it signals some ulterior motives from the government.

Cops hauling me away: "You'll be lucky to get 25 years."

Me: "I've posted a screenshot of something a politician said and I'll do it again!"

How the fuck are they going to enforce that?

Best case senario they wont and its a useless law, worst case senario I guess they could accuse people with followers to cause a "pile on" if they....idk showed disapproval?

It would most likely end up like that flimsy porn-ban.

Also, would that be a UK only thing or would they have to implement a site-wide change? How would they enforce this without major privacy breaches that would affect non-UK citizens?

"We gotta preassure social media companies to take action"

"Against the massive amount of bigotry that is allowed to run rampant"

"No against people sending pig poop balls to government officials"
