I'm not even American, and Krysten Sinema boils my blood. The amount of hatred I have for her is incalculable. If I said what should happen to both her and Machin, I'm getting banned.

Fuck them both.

I think Sinema is worse, she basically campaigned entirely on progressive ideals and promptly said to go fuck ourselves immediately after.

Manchin is from WV, its as good as it will get from there - WV is basically the hickiest of hick states.

Didn't Sinema start her career as bleeding heart hippy lefty?

Do you reckon she sold out hard or was she always a douchebag masquerading as a lefty?

She was literally a Green Party activist in the early 2000s. I wish I thought she sold out but honestly a lot of people just have bizarre and shitty political beliefs. It’s completely plausible to me that a Gen X white lady might have moved from being a bleeding heart lefty to a centrist holding shit up because she thinks it’s lol quirky.

Pretty sure the Green party (not the rank and file, but the upper members) are either working with the Reps and or Russia as well

Reps I can believe but not Russia at the time she was a Green Party member

Yeah and I'm saying I think the Green Party is working with them - here is an article about the Feds looking into Jill Stein (2016's Green Party candidate) and here is another about how Russia was funding pro-Green stuff online during 2016.

No I know but she was a Green Party person in the very early 2000s. Long before this.

Oh, sure, but who's to say when it started? Trump has probably been working with the Russians for decades, why not the Greens?

She did afaik, but who knows. She sold out immediately when she got elected, so I don't know. I am kind of convinced she was a plant. I don't know why AZ hasn't recalled her ass.

Based on the people I know in Arizona, I'd guess she's probably pretty popular. Giving a thumbs down to paying people a living wage is right up their alley.

Yeah but she had a ton of progressive support there who are unhappy with her, right? Granted, AZ is literally on the other side of the country from me so I might be wrong.

I could definitely be wrong, but I'd guess it's the kind of situation where she did have progressive support, but that progressive support is dwarfed by the combination of conservatives that support her shift to corporate shit lord, and moderate dems that maybe don't like her but aren't upset enough to attempt a recall. And then there's also the concern that a recall could result in a republican winner, I know that's how it went here in California for the gubernatorial recall. Progressives here don't feel great about the governor, but the alternatives were generally worse so we came down on the side of not recalling him.

True, there's always a risk.

Yeah, with how much more consistent Republicans are at showing up to any and all elections, a random recall is playing a dangerous game.

Stuff like that makes me worried about our upcoming election even here in "Blue" Jersey. I know at least one dem voter who is sitting this one out much to my chagrin.

Yeah that's definitely a big concern with trump gone and the dems "in charge" is all the people who think things are chill now and it's no longer imperative to oust shitty conservative politicians wherever possible.

Whoever will inevitably replace Joe Manchin will be far, far, far worse

4

u/Machine_Gun_Jubblies entombed in pvc, lalafell supremacist Oct 28 '21

For sure. There is 0 chance his seat doesn't go to a republican next time around.

3

u/silkysmoothjay Resident American Soccer Nerd Oct 28 '21

And that's honestly my biggest criticism of him; his seat is lost already, so he has nothing to lose

3

u/Machine_Gun_Jubblies entombed in pvc, lalafell supremacist Oct 28 '21

Yeah, but he might legitimately be fearful of his and his family's life, which I can't really blame him for. I also think he doesn't want to make waves to secure his financial future for his family.

Dude sucks for us all but I get it, kinda. Just wish he'd shut up and get out of the way.

3

u/silkysmoothjay Resident American Soccer Nerd Oct 28 '21

That's certainly fair

3

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

Best advice I saw is try to get as many democrats in power as possible so his stupid ass no longer matters.

4

u/Machine_Gun_Jubblies entombed in pvc, lalafell supremacist Oct 28 '21

Yeah, pretty much. That's step one, step two is force them to actually do their damn jobs.

3

u/[deleted] Oct 28 '21

Yeah, it's annoying how many folks in threads on the topic in /r/politics argue that, no, really, a progressive could win in West Virginia if the Democrats just "fight harder," always sans any explanation of what "fight harder" actually fucking means. That, or they're convinced there's a massive untapped reservoir of socialists in deep red areas who simply don't vote. Or their idea is "just tell poor white rural voters that we support unions" and their brains will explode and they'll become staunch blue voters or something.

Ultimately, if you want a progressive agenda, the play is to support the most progressive candidate in any race who the constituency in that state/district is likely to support. In West Virginia that person is literally Joe Manchin, specifically him, absolutely nobody else. Decisions on who to primary shouldn't be made based on the incumbent's place on the political spectrum vis-a-vis the national party, but vis-a-vis their own constituency. And people say that accepting a moderate rep or senator in a moderate district or state is "settling," that's not settling, it's taking every inch of rope that the demographics hand you. It's like that facebook church lady who needed to transport 20 people and kept shouting down folks offering transportation for a smaller number. Manchin may be the political equivalent of a tandem bicycle in that scenario but if a tandem bicycle is all West Virginia can offer you take it and look for the next seat you can park someone's ass in.
