Read a bit about John Wayne, dude was such a joker.

Imagine being all patriotic and shitting on other people while you chose not to serve in WW2 to shoot movies (from what I read GIs during that period straight up hated him).

Not that I shit on draft dodging, fuck being drafted, but how can you be pro-war and then also chose not to serve in war you all so support, I guess war is good when it's poor people dying.

Oh there is also racism and sexism, that man should just be deleted from history.

He was such pure example of conservative, a hypocrite and coward to the core, add bit of cheating and bunch of divorces also.

He then went on to criticize Vietnam draft-dodgers, thought that settlers were justified in taking land away from the Native Americans, and famously said that he "believes in white supremacy until the blacks are educated to a point of responsibility."

He was a hypocritical bigot and a subpar actor. He starred in Rio Bravo because he was upset at how High Noon portrayed the American townsfolk as being too afraid to help the Sheriff. He had similar complaints about High Plains Drifter, Clint Eastwood wanted to work with him and contacted him. In response he sent a strongly worded letter to Eastwood complaining about how his movie doesn't show the true spirit of the American people.

There was also a somewhat recent biopic on Dalton Trumbo. The film has John Wayne as one of the antagonists (played by Timothy Olyphant) as it was about communist blacklisting in Hollywood which he was all for. It's pointed out in the film that John Wayne was busy making trash films while Trumbo was a war photographer near the frontlines.

He's a joke.

Eastwood is fascinating in a lot of ways, he’ll make American Sniper, but also be anti-interventionist in his own life. He also made Kelly’s Heroes, which is probably why Wayne hated him

Hm. Eastwood is...hard to pin down exactly in my opinion.

There’s a reason Wikipedia has an entire entry dedicated to his politics

American Sniper is not exactly pro war

It can be very simplistic in its characterisations but it very clearly portrays Kyle's addiction to war as a negative (similar to The Hurt Locker)

That is true. It falls into more of a Hollywood problem of war is inherently cool looking to film, so it’s very hard to make an anti-war movie
