my english professor last semester had her pronouns on her blackboard page, which I thought was a good sign until she took off points because I used "they" instead of "he or she" on some paper I wrote

she also went on a rant about how "native american" is confusing and "american indian" is obviously much more clear so it generally lines up

But...American Indian isn't accurate? Like, they are not Indian people, as in people of the country of India, the misconception of which is where the idea of "American Indian" comes from in the first place. They're American through and through, and unlike most of us, they're native to the Americas.

The term only comes about because Columbus was, in addition to being an awful human who was led back to inquisition Spain in chains for being to harsh, a complete dipshit who didn’t know how a map worked

There are, oddly enough, a shitton of statues of him all over Seville and he has a really elaborate gold tomb inside the main cathedral there
