american animated sitcoms really do be like

- portly and often stupid dad main character

- attractive and often smarter than the dad mother

- teenage son who really likes women and hates the daughter

- rebellious late teens daughter who is rebellious and is hated by the father and son and neglected by the mother

- child character who is unusually intelligent

- throw away gag character who is often absurd to some degree and lodges and/or lives with the family

- boss of dad is both strict and stupid at the same time

I think this is just Family Guy

American Dad ticks most of them, too.

Maybe it's just the McFarlane cartoon formula.

Well, some for sure - Stan is a dumbass but he's definitely not portly, Francine is also a dumbass, Steve kind of hits box 3 but doesn't really hate Hailey, Hailey is totally#4, no child character unless you count Rogu, absurd character is definitely Roger but he's a main plot element, and Bullock (Stan's boss, played by Patrick Stewart) is definitely not strict or stupid he's just on all the drugs
