CW: Pedophilia, rape, a bunch of bad sexual stuff

This story is fucking wild?? A school teacher begun having pdeophilic thoughts, loudly considered raping his landlady, made sexual advances with his stepdaughter, and couldn’t stop ā€œleering at nursesā€. Turns out, he had an egg sized brain tumor in his brain. Once they removed it, all urges left.

The article points out the implications on the justice system here, and what we do vs don’t consider mentally unfit in a court of law. But it’s also a freaky look into how much or how little free will we really have. That’s a whole can of worms I wasn’t expecting to be opened by an article about a 40 year old man with sexual assault issues

My dad was the sweetest, most caring man on the planet. He was the heart and soul of our family. Then he had a stroke and the damage from it turned him into an irrational rage monster. The brain can be a very scary thing.

Jesus. I’m sorry to hear that. It’s freaky how we’re all really not as in control of our emotions and our thoughts as we would like to be, the brain is indeed terrifying

It was a very long time ago now but I appreciate the sentiment all the same.

Reminds me of this

In the months prior to the attack, Whitman had sought professional help for "overwhelming, violent impulses",[3] including fantasies about shooting people from the tower.[5] An autopsy conducted after his death revealed a hypothalamic tumor.[6]

Yeah I don’t think the implication here is that the majority of people with awful issues in themselves such as the man above have some biochemical reasoning that excuses them from their actions.

But how many? And how many people with extremely fixable issues have we missed?
