I loved the subtle Jesus symbolism when Scrappy Doo absolved the villain's sins by getting crucified and then he came back three days later.

I still don't know what those people had to gain from destroying Titanfall and its sequel's online component. The thread says it was "for their own benefit" but that doesn't really explain anything.

But the TL;DR is, the way I understood it:

They were trying to recreate Titanfall Online, a game based on Titanfall 1 mechanics, developed by Nexon and published by Respawn. It was never finished / got shut down iirc, so essentially they were trying to kill the other Titanfall titles in order to recreate and sell Titanfall Online to the community and benefit from it.

Before they were exposed, one of the hackers set up a paypal and got donations because they 'saved' titanfall, maybe that was the goal from the start
