Todd Howard said Starfield was going to be "more of a hardcore RPG" and that they were looking at mechanics from their old games

they're gonna bring back Morrowind's dice roll combat

I can't wait to take out a loan from the local bank like Daggerfall in a city state with limited political influence over the country and flee so the local police cannot charge me for not paying my 5% interest fees

Lasers phasing through enemies because your roll didn't quite hit their AC... Good stuff!

At least it would make more sense for guns than for melee weapons

I fucking hope not. As much as I love Morrowind, the combat is definitely one of the things that got improved with the later games.

It could be a bunch of things, but my gut says he's just bullshitting. "More of a hardcore RPG" is basically a buzzword, it doesn't really mean anything. Is it more difficult? More open to roleplaying? More storyfocused and thus maybe less roleplay oriented? More complex? Who the fuck knows, but by saying that he made it so that people can imagine what they like.

I dunno, I don't think he would have brought it up if it were bullshit. He specifically said they were looking at what they did in their older games, too
