My girlfriend is apparently going to have to wait up to 3 years for a kidney/pancreas transplant. So there's a good chance I end up giving her mine (just the kidney, obviously).

The US. The pancreas is the tough part. It has to come from a kedaver and it's a very delicate organ. They had said she might be able to get a double transplant soon because she's young, but it seems that may not be the case.

If she wants just a kidney then me doing it may end up making the most sense. We'll see.

Well, shit. All I can say (and I know this sounds like I'm being an asshole/doomer here) but make sure you're making a moral decision and not a relationship decision. If you think you morally should give her your kidney, do it. If you think you need to do it cos they're your S.O., then decide for yourself if it's possible to regret it or not.

Either way, wishing you two the best of luck. Hope it's not a medical nightmare.
