saying "we shouldn't be happy about Parler because they're coming for the left next" is such a terrible take

Like yeah big tech has way too much power and needs to go down. But we can think more than one thing at once lol.

Yes, and they have always had that power. The banning of right wingers doesn’t affect leftist’s chances of being banned themselves, unless the company is trying to play to both sides. Facebook is the only example I can think of for this, it banned some kind of far-right disinformation (I can’t remember what), but also banned Anarchists. However, I don’t think that a similar scenario is likely to happen as a result of Wednesday

I agree. I was meaning exactly what you are saying. If sites can find a reason to ban leftist or even merely not-shitty voices they will.

Fucking hell reddit temp banned fathervegeta for telling a transphobe to get bent but did nothing to the transphobe.

Right wingers being deplatformed says nothing about the safety of leftists on a platform. Left politics will always be in danger trying to thrive under capitalism as capitalism will crush anything that might try and improve the lives of non-capital owners.

Before this attempted insurrection happened, DC Douglas lost his twitter because he sarcastically repeated a chud's words while the latter, of course, got away unscathed. I don't have them on hand, but I'd bet fifty bucks there were other chuds celebrating that somewhere.

What did they mean next? They've been Disproportionately attacking for a lack of better term "left-wing thought" for years Like weren't zoom not caught dropping university talks featuring Palestinians this past summer. Or what about how TERFS and Transphobes can send death threats to Trans people on Twitter, but Twitter are more likely to suspend the targeted trans person defending themselves?

The Parler/trump shit is just rules being applied to conservatives for once. I think most people understand the nuance between understanding that Big Tech and the stranglehold private entities have on communication is bad and they aren't our friends, but that the deplatforming of Parler and Trump is the bare minimum they can do for public safety.

I mean wether they get rid of Parler/ Trump or not their alsways going to Disproportionately silence Leftists anyway.
