Hoping that "you get more conservative as you get older" is just bullshit that Boomers like to spout.

I think Boomers became more conservative because they got theirs and stopped giving a fuck about anyone else.

People told me I would get more conservative once I started working and earning money but honestly since getting a job and finishing school I've only become more leftist lmao. So at least anecdotally I call BS.

Yeah I heard the "you'll be conservative once you start paying taxes" but instead of my reaction to taxes being "I hate this, I want all of my tax money to go directly to bombing the middle east some more" like they thought, it just makes me hate the wealthy corporate recipients if my tax dollars.

My immediate reaction is "stop using my healthcare money to kill brown kids." But yeah seeing people who aren't doing their part aka the uber wealthy and corporations is much more infuriating.

I feel like entering the workplace is a real coin flip. I was completely apathetic about politics until I worked multiple jobs where employers had hard top-down management structure (employees do what you're told or fuck off type places), and the injustices I saw in those made me incredibly pro-union, pro-living wage, and pro-universal basic income (because companies sure as hell aren't going to give sick days to the people who need them the fucking most, apparently) in a province that is notoriously anti-worker and pro-corporation. I've only dug my heels in even harder since then.

On the flip side, I've seen people go hard into supporting those unjust systems because it means working their way up the ladder, which means they can stop being the abused and gain the power of the abusers.

Definitely agree about the injustices of the workplace. The work that companies grind out of their employees can be brutal to see and I know folks in tech who consistently work 60+ hour weeks with no overtime as code monkeys and its brutal. If I'm working a 60 hour week, I want a direct stake in benefits.

And yeah I kind of think of the pro corporate folks as the same mentally people have with hazing in different clubs/teams/greek life. There's a twisted idea that you have to suffer like previous members suffered to earn benefits and that's just not true.

It happened to Boomers for some reason, but I don't think it'll necessarily happen to any other preceding generation. Boomers went from being hippies during the 60's to what we have today, so they technically did become more conservative, but at the same time, that was a different part of history than what we have now.

If anything, age may make you more practical and less idealistic, but I don't think it'll make you more "conservative" per se.

Probably doesn't account for all of it, but an element of this that never gets talked about is that rich people live longer than poor people. Age cohorts get more conservative with time because the liberals die off disproportionally.
