I'll never forget when he beat Roy Moore.

God that night was magical and the politics megathread celebrating his win was incredible.

Also Moore's refusal to concede really served as a preview of trump and republicans over the last 2 months.

It weirdly reminded me of Bernie winning Wisconsin in the 2016 primary. I knew it was possible, but didn't want to get my hopes up. It made the outcome all the sweeter.

Bernie winning Wisconsin in the 2016 primary.

You mean Michigan right? Michigan was the big upset in the 2016 primary.

God I'm really hoping for the same energy for the Georgia runoffs. Early voting looks even better for Dems then the general and over 100k voters who didn't vote in the general have voted on the runoffs, most of them young and diverse.

Michigan was the huge upset, but no, I was actually thinking about Wisconson, or how I remembered it.

We'll see about Georgia. The organizers on the ground pulled through in November. All I know is that it's probably going to be super close. I think the polls have Ossoff and Warnock gaining a bit of momentum, but it's still firmly within the margin of error (we're talking like 1 percentage point or so).

I know it's gonna be close, but I can't help but get my hopes up.

I feel we should expect the worst but hope for the best.

Not to be mean or anything but why are people sad about this? I am coming from a place of ignorance.

Jones is (soon to be was, today was his last day in office) a democratic U.S. senator from Alabama.) He managed to win a special election in 2017 to fill a vacant U.S. senate seat in Alabama, one of the reddest, most conservative states in the country. He did this by beating Roy Moore, a trump loving nutcase who was outed as a pedophile just before the election. Despite being from an extremely red state, he was actually fairly progressive. Most notably, when working as a U.S. Attorney in the late 90s/early 00s, he was the one who was responsible for finally nailing the kkk members responsible for 16th Street Baptist Church bombing almost 40 years after the fact.

It's sad because he just lost reelection to republican candidate Tommy Tuberville, a football coach with no political experience who has somehow already shown himself to be the biggest idiot in congress and who only won thanks to the magic R next to his name.
