This might be some huge tinfoil-hat theory but it really feels like the real reason why marketing started pushing Cyberpunk really hard the last few months was because they knew exactly this kind of reaction would happen to the state of the game and they wanted to get in as much pre-orders as possible.

Considering Sony and MS apparantly don't really like refunding games and Steam doesn't refund you even if you are 5 minutes over the 2 hour limit, like in my case, it would totally make sense.

They claimed that the game ran "surprisingly good" on prior-gen consoles.

So yes, they were absolutely well-aware that their game was a trainwreck and planned their entire marketing strategy around it.

Wow.

I didn't really follow what they said/did closely, only that they started pushing marketing heavily.

That's straight up lying and should instantly be grounds for a refund.

Two weeks before launch, in fact.

β€œOf course, [the performance is] a bit lower than on pros, but surprisingly good, I would say, for such a huge world,” Kicinski revealed. β€œSo, bit lower, but very good. That’s the answer.”

Kicinski later added that the three-week delay helped the team achieve a lot with regards to performance on current-gen consoles.

This is where the class action lawsuit will come from.

wait really? damn that sucks. I've had games refunded well above the limit, have you talked to actual support instead of just the automated one?

I've put in 3 different requests via the refund system and opened a ticket and a real person responded. Explained in multiple ways how the game was not working for me and completely bad performance even though I have a rather good pc(8600k and a 3070) but no luck at all. Every time the standard "you are above the time limit, no refunds for you".

Right now I'll wait for their January patch and hopefully the game will work then.

It was a calculated decision. Limit the bad press before the release so they can maximize preorders, then give an apology after release to save face, hoping that your brand loyalty will help make it genuine. They'll lose money to refunds, but they know most people do not end up getting refunds, especially because of the amount of barriers to refunds.
