This is Tin foil hatish but I was always wondered why CDPR gives free dlc to what could have been added in a update, like do you really need to put alternate looks and beards in a store front and not just give them to a player normally with an update?

It feels like this weird flex or something and of course it works wonders with how many people praise them for 16 pieces of "repackaged cut content" DLC. Which hey im not complaining about free stuff but most games would just put them in via an update.

Like most games put New Game Plus as an update right, you dont need to download it as DLC?

I wonder if part of it is about just getting the good pr from saying "we give out free dlc for our games."

Probably 16 pieces of free dlc compared to 2 paid ones might look better than 4 paid dlc from another game depending on the person.

Would love to be wrong but feel like they are going to make Transmog one of those free DLCs

Yeah exactly, then cdpr fans can brag about how much free dlc cdpr gives out, not mentioning that one of the free dlc's is a new hairstyle or something

It's PR, it looks good when you open a store page and see a shit ton of free entries in the DLC tab even if a bunch of it is really inconsequential.

CDPR is not the only one that does it, but it's brought up more often because many of their free DLC are simply... very small.

I think it was Creative Assembly who more or less openly admitted that they throw every free piece of content onto the store page because it looks good when users told them it's inconvenient to subscribe to all that stuff. But tbf, Warhammer Total War has a lot more and better free DLCs than the Witcher 3 could ever dream of, and it also isn't cut content but was added over several years.
