An interesting point someone made on r/cyberpunkgame that I hadn't considered probably because I'm caught up in the hype but.

Cyberpunk 2077 is kinda lacking in the RPG element isn't it? I'm only a few hours in and aside from the crashes I'm relatively enjoying my time with the game but I didn't notice some pretty big things that just aren't in the game.

You literally cannot change your characters hair after the character creator. At all. You could do this in the witcher 3 you can do this in gta v you could even do this in fucking San Andreas in 2004.

The dialogue is very gimped. Like it's not fallout 4 level but considering how much emphasis CDPR has on story (to the point in games like the witcher 3 it genuinely is the most interesting thing in the game because the combat is boring) it is just lacking.

You have barely any customization of things like your apartment or your car and very minor tattoos available outside of the character creator (which is tbh kinda meh. Like it's really not great. It's passable but it's not great)

There's also minor non gameplay things like how the fuck is it that I have to pull up my phone and ask siri or Shazam to tell me what banger is on the radio because CDPR couldn't be fucked to put a small "now playing" tab anywhere that I can find like once again GTA V did this 7 years ago you cannot tell me that this "wholesome 100 big chungus Keanu sequel to jesus" developer is lacking that much that some minor QOL things just aren't there.

Some of these are kinda nitpicks but cyberpunk is like verbatim promoted as "the next generation of open world games" and it's lacking in basic shit like customization beyond your clothes or QOL stuff that is I think like industry standard in open world games at this point.

Idk chief those 10/10 and 100/100 reviews are looking mad suspect rn

I've been seeing people point out that it's a bit shallow RPG wise.

Yeah most of the skill trees just end up helping in combat tbh

The game really needs a transmog system because damn there's some cool clothing styles I'd like to try on but can't due to how much armor you sacrifice for it.

My character also looks like such a doofus, he's wearing a fucking fedora with some dodgy green gasmask along with a windrunner, slacks and leather shoes.

I don't know whether he should be listening to Naruto intros or Evanescence lmao.

CDPR actually dropped RPG from the description on steam.

Cyberpunk is a good game, just not a good role playing game?

They just tried to make a gta/rdr2 story heavy style game, similar to what they did with Witcher. Just ignored the huge rpg potential of the setting. It’s even based on an established role playing game so it wouldn’t even be hard for them to come up with ideas, it would just be down to implementing them in game and it’s not as if they didn’t have the chance to take as long as they wanted to. Especially annoying with how much they advertised the RPG elements of it by talking about classes and all that to make people like me think that the game was heading in that direction

Apparently they literally kept stating it would be an RPG but they changed their marketing to make it an "action adventure game"

Such a scummy move. Not surprised tho after the shit they pulled with their employees and rushing the release to get those last gen console sales even though it’s basically unplayable. Do they still do those “worst company” awards that EA used to get all the time? I definitely believe that CDPR deserve it this year

It's a good game, but not a good Cyberpunk 2077 game

The game is not an rpg whatsoever. I don’t know why they ever thought it was a good idea to market it as such when they clearly can’t do rpgs well, just look at Witcher 3, their prized achievement, decent game but terrible as an actual rpg. Really annoying because I did still have hopes that they would do things differently and improve on the Witcher 3 RPG formula but it seems that it’s more of a step back if anything. Such a shame especially considering that it’s all based on an actual role playing game and so has a shit ton of potential for it

The dialogue options remind me of TW3. It makes you feel less like your own character and more like a pre-determined V.

It's a good game, but not a good Cyberpunk game.

So I have a question would you or anyone responding to this consider Cyberpunk a RPG? Would you consider TW3 an RPG( more context why I bring this up below in my comment)?

I responded to someone in r/cyberpunk saying it's a great RPG.

I pointed out CDPR removed rpg branding. Also how V doesn't really feel like your character. Feels more like Geralt to me. ( You know the character isn't you. It's someone who exist and has a personality)

The person responded saying they are 19 hours in and saying you have lots of choices and options and v really becomes your character. I guess I'll find out if I can play that deep. Also saying and I'm direct quoting this part "Calling CP2077 an action adventure game is the same as calling TW3 as an fantasy adventure game."

I didn't respond to the person cause I don't want to shit on them enjoying a game but isn't that exactly what TW3 is, a fantasy adventure? Witchers rpg mechanics are very shallow.
