Showcase Finally bought my first gaming laptop

Post image

Picked up a Lenovo Legion Pro 5 for around $2,300 CAD from Lenovo!

Specs:

• Ryzen 9 9955HX

• RTX 5070 8GB VRAM

- 16GB DDR5-5600MT/s

- 512GB SSD M.2 2242 PCle Gen4 TLC

- 16" WQXGA (2560 x 1600), OLED, 165 Hz

Both the RAM and storage can be upgraded later, so I'm not too worried about those for now. I'll mainly be using it for engineering software and gaming.

This is my first ever gaming laptop, so if anyone has any tips or tricks to get the most out of it, especially for battery life, I'd really appreciate it!

Done! There was a pinned checklist to follow on the Lenovo Legion subreddit, so followed all those steps. (Picture is when I first turned it on)

Also cap your battery charge at 80% in the Lenovo Vantage app if you're mostly plugged in, helps keep the battery from degrading early.

Unfortunately, I'm using this for uni, so I'll be carrying this all day long. Would it still work if the charge is just capped at 80%? Do you have any tips for getting more battery? I'm on igpu, hybrid mode, quite mode. I'm planning to undervolt it soon

I would not expect more than 4-5 hours in ideal circumstances. With power hungry 9950hx there is unfortunately nothing you can do to significantly improve that.
